Officials rule TCI fire an accident

GHENT–After a three-month-long joint investigation into the cause of the TCI of New York recycling facility fire, State Police and the Office of Fire Prevention and Control have determined that the cause of the fire was accidental. All plausible outside causes, including incendiary causes have been ruled out, according to a press release issued October 11.

The official criminal investigation into this matter, conducted by the State Police has been closed and is final.

The investigation was undertaken following the industrial fire at the TCI building at 39 Falls Industrial Park Road, August 1. The fire burned for nearly 24 hours and sent a plume of smoke from the burning chemicals travelling with the wind within at least a 15-mile radius of site.

The information was released by State Police in conjunction with the Office of Fire Prevention and Control, Columbia County Fire Coordinators Office, County Fire Coordinator John Howe and the West Ghent Fire Chief James Cesternino.

The Office of Fire Prevention and Control is continuing its portion of the fire investigation.
