Thelma M. Hall (1923 – 2012)
COVINGTON, GA—Thelma M Hall, of Chatham passed away Sunday, October 14 in Covington, GA.
She was born April 29, 1923 in her grandmother’s house in Ghent to Arnold and Mary Helen (Sherrill) Wamback.
She married John William (Bill) Hall August 28, 1943.
Mrs. Hall is survived by: her daughter, Jackie (Hall) Deverell and husband Bruce; daughters-in-law, Nellie (Bemiss) Hall and Susan (Hoffman) Hall; grandsons, Scott Hall, Michael Hall and wife Heather (Forrester) Hall, and David Northup; granddaughters, Leah (Hall) Casucci and husband Rick Casucci and Jennifer Northup; great grandsons, Camden Hall, Maso Casucci, Enzo Casucci, Peter and Heath Northup; great granddaughter, Tessa Northup and the love of the late Sean Hall’s life, Nicole Bomer; sister-in-law, Reta (Stanton) Wamback and Reta’s three children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, John W. (Bill) Hall; her sons, John and Craig Hall; her grandson, Sean Hall and brother, Arnold (Bud) Wamback.
There were few people in the Chatham community whose lives she didn’t touch with her warm and caring spirit. She helped families in the community and was always there with something homemade when food was needed—bread, cookies, pies—she baked with love and gave her heart and time to so many.
An avid gardener, she maintained a small garden outside her apartment in Chatham until shortly before she moved to Georgia. Even then, she continued to dispense gardening advice from her seat in the outdoor swing at her daughter’s home. She was loved by many and will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Church in Spencertown, November 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her name to one’s local hospice or St. Peter’s Church. For online condolences or directions visit www.frenchblasl.com.
Katherine V. Silliman (1921 – 2012)
VALATIE—Katherine V. (Kitty) Silliman passed away October 20, 2012 at Barnwell Nursing Home.
Born October 29, 1921 in Westchester County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Nellie Cramer Traver and the youngest of five children: the late Spencer, Frank, and George Traver and sister Pauline Bailey.
Mrs. Silliman graduated from White Plains High School and moved to Chatham with her railroad family shortly after. She was employed by the B.H. Delson Company and Chatham Central School District as a teacher’s aide. She spent many years as a homemaker and was also a member of American Legion Post #42 Auxiliary.
She married William H. Silliman in April 1947. He passed away in March 2000. They maintained their home in Chatham since 1952.
She is survived by: one son, David (Terry) C. Silliman; five grandchildren, Kimberly N. Czyzewski, Victoria M. Zyryi, Katherine L. Silliman, Stephen L. Silliman and Paul W. Silliman; four great grandchildren, Lauryn Czyzewski, Gerald Wyant, Jonathan Zyryi and Grayson Niesel.
Mrs. Silliman loved animals and birds. When she was caring for her neighbor’s pets as well as her own, she would watch the birds at her feeders until it was time to spoil a grandchild/great grandchild or two.
In later years she would try to keep in touch with old friends who would remind her of some good old times.
Calling hours will be Thursday, October 25 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham. A religious service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
Interment will be On Tuesday, October 30, 1 p.m. in Chatham Rural Cemetery.

Mildred M. Sickler (1929 – 2012)
HUDSON—Mildred M. Sickler, 83, of Hudson, died Saturday, October 20 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born in Stockport, September 2, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Marion (Stickles) Weed.
She was the widow of the late Augustus John Sickler. Mrs. Sickler was a cashier for the Grand Union in Hudson and later in Valatie and retired after 35 years. Prior to that she was a floor clerk at Columbia Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Sickler was a member of Christ Church Episcopal in Hudson, as well as, a member of the Becraft Pumper Company Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin C. and Katelyn Sickler of Greenport; one sister, Marion Weed of Ghent; one brother, Leonard and (Patricia) Weed of Hudson; grandchildren, Kevin A., Kimberly A., Madison S., and Brayden C. Sickler, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Edward, Kenneth, Charles and Robert and a sister, Dorothy Thompson.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday, October 23, 1 to 2 p.m. at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport.
Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. John Perry of Christ Church Episcopal officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Greenport.
Henry L. Cobb, Jr. (1930 – 2012)
ALBANY—Henry L. Cobb, Jr., of Hudson died at the Veterans Administration Hospice, Friday October 19, 2012.
He was born November 10, 1930 in Providence, RI, to the late Marjorie (Cooke) Cobb and Henry L. Cobb, Sr.
He attended and graduated from Hope High School in Providence, where he was class president for four years. He also graduated from Smith Culinary School.
Mr. Cobb served in the Korean War. After the war he was a full-time salesman traveling to New York City, Rhode Island, Virginia, Georgia, Connecticut and Massachusetts. He sold “black products,” primarily black greeting cards and cleaning products. He was an ardent “Black History” buff and financially supported black colleges.
He leaves: his cherished wife of 48 years, Jean Burton Cobb; daughter, Yvonne Cobb Rice; son-in-law, Peter A. Rice, Jr.; two grandchildren, Cierra and Pierra’ Rice of Hudson; one sister, Marjorie Elenore Cobb; two nieces, Fern Jackson Trice (Norman) and Amber McHale (and children), all of Pawtucket, RI, and two cousins, Laverne and Gloria of Atlanta, GA.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Cobb Jackson.
A calling hour will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, October 24 at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, followed by services at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 25 at Riverside Cemetery in Wakefield, RI.
