Ronald Platner (1952 – 2012)

SARATOGA—Ronald Platner, Jr., 60, of Greenfield Center, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Saratoga Hospital.

Born September 23, 1952 in Hudson, he is the son of Ronald Platner, Sr. of Altamont and the late Vivian (Lighthart) Platner.

 

Mr. Platner was the pharmacy supervisor for CVS in Saratoga. He was retired from the New York State Department of Labor. He enjoyed going to toy shows.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Lois Kepinski-Starteri Platner of Greenfield Center; his son, Ronald Platner, III, of Greenfield Center; his aunt, Marilyn Kraft of Greenport; his cousin, William Kraft of Greenport;  three step-children, Richard Nestoryak, Jr., Catherine Kepinski, and Jon Kepinski; three grandchildren, Madilyn Nestoryak and Elizabeth and Jon Kepinski.

Calling hours are noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 5 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home. Services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robert Monahan (1935 – 2012)

COPAKE—Robert Monahan of Taconic Shores, Copake passed away November 30 suddenly at his home.

In April, he lost his beloved wife of 56 years, Joan. An active member of the Young at Hearters Club, Mr. Monahan leaves behind his children, Carole and Robert.

He helped sculpt the New York City skyline. He was a proud member of the Metal Lathers Union Local 46 for many decades. He worked on the World Trade Center Towers for several years. He also helped build the Timex Building, the Palace Hotel, the McGraw Hill Building, as well as, the Metropolitan Opera House and many more.

A brief memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 5, 2012 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22 in Copake.

Private interment services will be at the convenience of the family.

John W. Bratton (1935 – 2012)

HUDSON—John W. Bratton, 77, of Hudson passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at his residence.

Born October 21, 1935 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Thomas and Caroline K. Bratton and the step-son of Frances Bratton.

Mr. Bratton graduated from Hudson High School in 1953 and Albany Business College in Albany. After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for two years.

Mr. Bratton was an active member and communicant of Emanuel St. John’s Lutheran Parish in Hudson. He was a popular musician with many area bands in Columbia and Greene counties for many years.

He and his son were the owners of a contracting and painting business for more than 25 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Arlene (Tkacy) Bratton of Hudson; two sons, Robert Bratton and David Bratton (partner Megan Kisselburg) of Hudson; his daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jean and George Bednar of Hudson; his granddaughter, Stephanie Bednar of Hudson; two grandsons, Brian (Denise) Bednar and Richard Bratton (the late Sharon Bratton) of Hudson; his sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Allen Higgins; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Evelyn Hummel, Janice Wischhusen, and Dorothy Howard.

There will be no calling hours.

Services were conducted Wednesday, December 5 at the Emanuel St. John’s Lutheran Church, 20 South Sixth Street, Hudson. Pastor Betsy Diver officiated.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Barbara Scarduzio (1948 – 2012)

 

CHATHAM—Back into the Grace of God’s eternal love was called the spirit of Barbara Jo Scarduzio of Chatham, who passed away Wednesday, November 28. Her unexpected passing was tended by her loving family. She was born in Ossining, January 10, 1948 to Joanne and Michael Scarduzio.

Ms. Scarduzio became a lover of life and all that it had to offer. Later on she would devote herself to raising horses and an equestrian lifestyle which greatly influenced her children. Her extensive participation in Dutchess County 4-H activities touched the lives of many. She enjoyed a natural ability to garden and achieved numerous awards for her contributions to the beautification of her community.

She is survived by: her loving children, Joseph Bertoldi (Melissa), Deneen Browne (Rob) and Donnie Bertoldi (Mary); grandchildren, Jay, Meagan, Ashley, Christina, Samantha, Kevin, Joseph Jr. and Elizabeth; great grandchildren Makayla, Destiny, Jaidin and Michael. Ms. Scarduzio also leaves her sister, Sandra; brother, Michael and their respective children.

She is loved by many and will be terribly missed.
