Richard K. Barrett (1959 – 2012)

HUDSON—Richard Kenneth Barrett, 53, of Tivoli, a longtime area resident, passed away peacefully, Friday, December 21, 2012 at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Barrett graduated early from Red Hook High School with the class of 1976. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed attending NASCAR races and watching his favorite Giants and Yankees. He was always the life of the party and enjoyed spending time with family and many good friends.

Most recently, Mr. Barrett was the assistant store manager with Lowe’s in Kingston and Catskill. He also was a self-employed ceramic tile setter and as a mason with Bard & Sons Masonry for many years. Earlier, he drove tour buses for many famous bands, including GrandMaster Flash, U2, Flock of Seagulls, the Thompson Twins and many others.

Born March 31, 1959, in Queens, he was the son of the late Christine (Bila) Barrett and Richard D. Barrett of Milan.

Mr. Barrett married Louise Salzano August 23, 1986 in St. Sylvia’s Church in Tivoli, where she and the family still reside.

In addition to his loving wife and father, he is survived by: his two beloved daughters, Dayna and Kathryn Barrett, both of Tivoli; his son, Kyle Barrett of Albany; his sister; Beth Barrett Dachs of Red Hook; his two brothers, Christopher Barrett and wife Joy of Nashua, NH, and Ken Barrett (KB) of Gallatin; nephews, William and Stephen Dachs, Brendan and C.J. Barrett; niece, Courtney Barrett; his brother-in-law, Robert Salzano and his wife Laurie of Milton; grandmother, Angela Bila of Hempstead and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his in-laws, Frank and Louise Salzano and brother-in-law, Frank Salzano.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. December 29, 2012 at St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook. Father Patrick Buckley will officiate. Interment will be private.

Friends and family are all invited to call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook.

In lieu flowers, a scholarship fund has been set up for Mr. Barrett’s children and donations may be made to the Barrett Children’s Scholarship Fund, c/o the Burnett & White Funeral Home.

Raymond J. Najda (1952 – 2012)

ELIZAVILLE—Raymond J. Najda, 60, of Elizaville, a longtime resident of northern Dutchess County, died Saturday, December 15, 2012 at his home.

He was a well known contractor and cabinetmaker.

A longtime member of the Red Hook Golf Club, he was instrumental in the expansion of the course.

Born June 23, 1952, in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Chester R. and Adeline (Benson) Najda.

He survived by several cousins, extended family and numerous friends and colleagues.

A memorial service will be announced after the holidays.

David C. Squier (1930 – 2012)

NEW LEBANON- David C. Squier, 82, a resident of New Lebanon since 1958, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 22, 2012.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lore Squier; his devoted sons, William of Stamford, CT, John of Falmouth Foreside, ME, and Michael Squier of Chatham; their wives, Beth, Laurette and Rita; his three loving grandchildren, Craig, Levi and Lauren; his sister, Nancy Squier of Upper Montclair, NJ; his in-laws, Georg Oefelein of Moers, Germany and Annemarie and Richard Benson of Dalton, MA, and their families.

He was born May 19, 1930.

A graduate of the University of Arizona and Delhi Tech, Mr. Squier served in the United States Army as specialist third grade with the military police in Germany during the Korean War where he met his wife, Lore.

An avid car, boat and antique enthusiast and authority, he was also a private pilot, loved his many German shepherds and spending time at his family’s summer home in the Adirondacks. Mr. Squier was a man of unique character and strong principles, who followed his own path.

He was predeceased by his parents, Olga Leora and Frederick C. Squier; his sister, Delores Squier; and his mother-in-law, Wilhelmina Oefelein.

A private funeral service will be held for his family and friends. Arrangements under the guidance of Hall & Higgins Funeral Home of Stephentown.
