Ruth J. Atwater (1919 – 2013)
PITTSFIELD, MA—Ruth J. Hoffman Atwater, 93, lifelong resident of Stephentown, died peacefully Friday morning, February 8 at Springside of Pittsfield.
Born in Stephentown, September 8, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Eunice White Hoffman.
She was the loving wife of the late William E. Atwater, who died February 23, 1990. They were married in New Lebanon, August 28, 1942. She attended Stephentown schools and in her earlier years worked as a domestic housekeeper in Williamstown, MA.
After her marriage and the birth of her son, Mrs. Atwater was a homemaker who loved housecleaning, gardening, home canning and collecting ornaments.
She is survived by: her son, Kirk W. (Micky) Atwater of Montverde, FL; grandchildren, Chad W. (Vicki) Atwater of Montverde, FL, Heather L. (Chuck) Riccardi of Stephentown; great-grandchildren, Shelby and Cody Atwater, Travis and Derek Riccardi; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings, Dorothy Miner, Florence Crosier, John and William Hoffman.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 11 at 7 p.m. in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 State Route 43, Stephentown, where the Reverend Trygve C. Tomlinson will officiate. Interment will be private in Garfield Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home for visitation Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 208, Stephentown 12168 in loving memory of Mrs. Atwater.
Harold N. Rekow (1943 – 2013)
HUDSON—Memorial services for Harold N. Rekow have been rescheduled due to the recent snowstorm.
Services will take place Friday, February 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Trinity Methodist Church of Hudson.
Mr. Rekow, 69, of Dutch Village Hudson died Wednesday January 30, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Frances Herpfer (1918 – 2013)
LIVINGSTON—Frances Herpfer, 94, of Linlithgo died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Livingston Hills Nursing home.
Born February 28, 1918 in Valley Stream, LI, she was the daughter of the late Sydney and Ellen (Pearsall) White.
During the 1940s she was a post warden in Lynbrook for the Civilian Protection of Nassau County. Mrs. Herpfer provided knitted items for Columbia Children’s Care of Hudson and several Indian reservations out west. She taught many of her family and friends how to knit. She was employed by the former Top Form Bra Company in Germantown, Fix Brothers Farm in Livingston and made holiday decorations for the Benjamin Bartolotta Farm in Livingston.
Survivors include: her son, William Herpfer of Copake; Louellen Herpfer of California; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, William, who died March 24, 1996; two brothers, N. Eugene White, George White and three sisters, Florence Dresdner, Edna White and Mini Schreiber.
There are no calling hours.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in the Saratoga National cemetery.
HONESDALE, PA—Rita Langone, (nee Battipede), 92, died peacefully Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Ellen Memorial Nursing Home. Mrs. Langone was formerly of Ancramdale, before moving to Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, in 2005.
She was the loving wife of the late Thomas Langone; beloved mother of Richard Langone and his wife Cathy of Lake Ariel, PA, Thomas Langone and his wife MaryAnn of Hawley, PA, and Roseann Kemp and her husband Michael of Red Hook; loving grandmother to Richie Langone, Jr., and his wife Tracy of Hicksville Tommy Langone and his wife Chrissy of Farmingdale, Melissa Latsch and her husband Chris of Hawley, PA, and Justin Kemp of Red Hook; loving great-grandmother to Christopher, Victoria, Richie and Joseph.
Mrs. Langone was a retired dressmaker. She enjoyed arts and crafts. She loved to cook and made many specialties that the entire family enjoyed. She loved spending time with her family and preserving many vegetables from her husband’s garden. Mrs. Langone loved her later years living in Pennsylvania, and loved the coffee club and bingo at Ellen Memorial. The family appreciates all the good people at Ellen Memorial who helped to make her feel at home.
The funeral will be Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 7749 South Main Street, Pine Plains, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with interment immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery, Pine Plains.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Alzheimer’s Association.
Robert O. Decker (1956 – 2013)
COPAKE FALLS—Robert O. Decker, 56, of Route 344 in Copake Falls, a former longtime resident of Millerton, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at his residence.
He was born May 5, 1956 in Sharon, CT, the son of Clarence C. and Constance M. (Kilmer) Decker.
Mr. Decker was employed by Hipotronics in Millerton and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Survivors include: his wife, Sherryl (Hoyt) Decker of Copake Falls; two daughters, Dana Decker of Wassaic and Stacy Decker of Coxsackie. He also leaves a granddaughter, Kaydence Thorpe and his siblings, David Decker of Millerton, Tamie Segalla and Zina Vadney, both of Canaan, CT.
Friends are invited and may call Friday, February 15, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22 in Copake.
Private interment will be held at a later date.
