STOCKPORT—Kenneth Shea, 58, of Livingston was charged with first degree sex abuse, a class D felony, by Livingston State Police investigators, according to a March 19 press release.
State Police and the Columbia-Greene Child Advocacy Center began an investigation March 7 into the reported sexual abuse of an eight-year-old child, which occurred in Stockport in 2008.
The investigation led to Mr. Shea’s arrest. He was arraigned in Stockport Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
State Police investigators at Livingston ask anyone with information related to this investigation to contact them at 518 851-2001.
Greenport
State Police at Livingston are investigating the stabbing of a 25-year-old Hudson man that occurred at the Halo Bar and Grill on Fairview Avenue.
The stabbing happened early the morning of Saturday, March 16 in the parking lot of the bar and grill. State Police ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who has related information to contact the Bureau of Criminal Investigations at 518 851-3111. As of the afternoon of Tuesday, March 19, investigators said they had nothing new on the stabbing and that the victim is still in hospital.
A dozen fire companies battle blaze
The Columbia County Cause and Origin Team and State Office of Fire Prevention and Control are investigating the cause of the fire that left a spacious residence at 509 Bashford Road, Chatham, a crumbling shell of bricks. County 911 dispatched Tri-Village firefighters and Chatham Rescue to the blaze, March 18 at 4:41 p.m. Fire Command requested mutual aid from Niverville and North Chatham to scene, then called for Valatie, Ghent and a Battalion Five response with tankers, bringing Red Rock, Canaan, Lebanon Valley, Austerlitz, East Chatham to the scene. Command then additionally called for Chatham and Nassau to the scene. The Chatham Rescue Squad took Randy Goold, Tri-Village Car 3, to Albany Medical Center with a reported burned hand. Chatham Rescue requested the County EMS gator and Greenport Rescue with their rehab unit.
New York State Electric & Gas was requested to the scene to disconnect power.
The Chatham Town Highway Department was called in to salt nearby roads.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and State Police were on the scene along with both the County Fire and EMS coordinators offices. As of March 19 at 1:45 p.m. units were still on the scene investigating. Tri-Village firefighters returned to the scene at 2:07 p.m. for a rekindle. They were back in service at 3:23 p.m.
Craryville
Jacek Mierzejewski, 21, of Craryville was charged with third degree assault by Deputy Christopher Link, March 6 at 11:24 a.m.
Mr. Mierzejewski was involved in a dispute during which he allegedly injured a woman by punching her in the face. Arraigned in Copake Court, Mr. Mierzejewski was released on his own recognizance and ordered to return to court at a later date.
Hudson
Andre T. Perry, Jr., 23, of Hudson was charged with resisting arrest, third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (narcotic drug with intent to sell/dangerous drug), unlawful possession of marijuana, failure to obey a police officer, two counts of going through a red light, three counts of failure to keep right on a two-lane road, illegal signal (from parked position), four counts of failed to stop at a stop sign, operating a motor vehicle on a public highway while using a mobile phone, a city code violation for having an open alcoholic beverage container by Hudson Police Officer Tracey Roberts at 252 Columbia Street, February 28 at 12:20 a.m.
Mr. Perry was charged during a traffic stop after he allegedly failed to comply with several patrol officers. He allegedly possessed 147 acetaminophen-oxycodone pills and a small amount of marijuana. He did not initially pull over in his vehicle, then, when he did stop, he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was apprehended after a short foot pursuit by the officer.
Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Mr. Perry was sent to jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond.
*Brian J. Shook, 33, of Hudson was charged with fourth degree criminal mischief (intent to damage property) and two counts of second degree harassment (physical/repeated) by Hudson Police Officer Nicholas Hodges at the police station, March 5 at 9:24 a.m.
Mr. Shook was arrested on an active Hudson City Court warrant issued January 23 after he allegedly became physically abusive, destroyed property at Columbia Memorial Hospital and pushed medical staff there.
Arraigned before City Judge John Connor, Mr. Shook was sent to jail in lieu of $200 cash bail or $1,000 bail bond.
*Robert A. Kinney, 26, who police say is homeless, was charged with seven counts of petit larceny (hate crime-theft of property) and seven counts of third degree forgery by Hudson Police Officer Nicholas Hodges at the police station, March 5at 9:41 a.m.
Mr. Kinney allegedly stole seven checks from the victim and completed them with himself as the payee without her permission.
He was arraigned before City Judge John Connor and released.
Drugs/alcohol
The following face drug- and/or alcohol-related charges:
*Brian Keith Fields, 23, of Ancram was charged with fifth degree criminal possession marijuana (25 grams) and a Hudson City code violation for having an open alcoholic beverage container by Hudson Police Officer Daniel T. Scali at 335 State Street, Hudson, March 5 at 3:23 p.m. Mr. Fields was interviewed in connection with some suspicious activity and was found to be in possession of an alcoholic beverage. After he was arrested, he was also found to have a sandwich bag containing marijuana with an aggregate weight of more than 25 grams. He was issued tickets to appear in City Court.
*Daniel McCarthy, 20, of Brookfield, CT, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and speeding by State Police from Livingston, March 17. Troopers pulled the McCarthy vehicle over for speeding (76 mph in a 55 mph zone) on the Taconic State Parkway, Ghent. When they approached the vehicle, troopers detected the odor of marijuana and subsequently found that Mr. McCarthy had a small amount of the substance. He was issued tickets returnable in Ghent Court. April 1.
*Henry Bauder, 53, of Stottville was charged with having an inadequate exhaust, failure to signal and unlawful possession of marijuana by State Police from Livingston, March 9 at 9:40 a.m. Troopers stopped the Bauder vehicle in Hudson for having a loud muffler and not signaling. Troopers smelled marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. An officer and his canine partner subsequently found Mr. Bauder to have a small amount of marijuana. He was issued appearance tickets returnable in Hudson Court March 26. A passenger, Shiron McKinney, 33, of Greenport was found to be in possession of a small amount of cocaine and marijuana. He was charged with seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana and was issued appearance tickets returnable in City Court at a later date.
*Mark Gansowski, 44, of Hillsdale was charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicle and traffic violations by State Police from Livingston, March 9 at 10:50 p.m. Troopers pulled Mr. Gansowski over in Copake after they saw him fail to stop at a stop sign. They detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage and administered sobriety tests which the driver could not perform. Mr. Gansowski took a breath test with a .12% blood alcohol content result. He was issued tickets returnable in Copake Court, March 25.

*Heather Shook was sentenced to five years probation by County Judge Richard Koweek, February 27. Represented by Attorney Ann Weaver, Ms. Shook pleaded guilty to attempting to commit a crime and fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, June 24, 2012 at 1:11 p.m.
*Co-defendant Ethan Cave, represented by Attorney Dennis McAvoy, was sentenced to a minimum of 2½ years incarceration; co-defendant Maxwell Rodriguez, represented by Attorney John Leonardson, was sentenced to a minimum of 5½ years incarceration; co-defendant Jared Ojeda, represented by Attorney Sean Lally, was sentenced to a minimum of 5½ years incarceration; and co-defendant Darryl Craig, represented by Attorney Shane Zoni, was sentenced to a minimum of 2½ years incarceration by County Judge Jonathan Nichols, March 1. All the men pleaded guilty to charges of second degree assault for which they were arrested by State Police at Livingston, June 2, 2012 at 2:45 p.m.
The following court cases were closed in Columbia County Court March 4 through 11:
* Paul VanBenschoten was sentenced to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison and had his probation revoked during an appearance on a violation of probation charge before County Judge Richard Koweek, March 5. The complaint about the probation violation was filed by the county Probation Department September 28, 2012. He was initially charged with third degree burglary by the Sheriff’s Office, January 9, 2012 at 1:45 p.m. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced September 5, 2012 to 5 years probation, to pay a $375 fine and $3,004.08 in restitution. His attorney was the public defender.
*Frederick Healy was arraigned before County Judge Jonathan Nichols on charges of DWI (second conviction within 10 years) and refusal to submit to a breath test, March 5. He was arrested by Hudson Police, January 3. His attorney is Steven Patterson. Pre-trial hearing(s) are June 14 and the trial July 15.
*Edward Stallman was arraigned before Judge Nichols on charges of sex offender fail to register at time of sentence (first offense), sex offender fail to report change address/status in 10 days (first offense) and unlawful possession of marijuana, March 5. He was arrested by the Sheriff’s Office January 3. His attorney is the public defender. Pre-trial hearing(s) are May 31 and the trial June 31.
*Co-defendants Brandon Maisenbacher and Andrew Simmons were sentenced to pay a total $24,509.33 in restitution and 1 to 3 years in prison by Judge Nichols, March 12. Mr. Maisenbacher, represented by Attorney Dennis McEvoy, was charged with 20 counts of second degree burglary (illegal entry-dwelling) and Mr. Simmons, represented by the public defender, was charged with 18 counts of the same charge. Both were arrested by the Sheriff’s Office, April 1, 2012 and both pleaded guilty.
