Margaret I. Yost Melnick (1924 – 2013)

PHILMONT—Margaret I. Yost Melnick, 88, of Hudson, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Pine Haven Nursing Home while under hospice care.

Born December 23, 1924 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Myrtle Nicholson.

Mrs. Melnick was a supervisor at the Hudson City Saving Institution for many years. Prior to that, she worked for J.J. Newberry’s and the Kritzman Maskin clothing store. She was a devoted member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, a member of the Ladies Guild, and also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Mrs. Melnick was active in the HCSI Professional Women’s Group, the Columbia Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered for the American Heart Association and American Cancer Society. She enjoyed family gatherings and was fond of her special friends group from Stottville.

Mrs. Melnick was the loving mother of Bonnie Yost Feller (Arnold) of Taghkanic and Paula Yost Melnick (Robert) of Claverack; beloved nana of Amy Melnick MacKay (Ken) of Burlington, VT, Robert Melnick (Jamie Houghtaling) of Edgewater, NJ, and Alicia Feller McCagg (Michael) of Greenport; devoted great-grandmother of Ryley, Carter, Regan, Brady and Grant MacKay and Connor and Kayleigh McCagg. Also surviving are many sisters and brothers-in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and her precious cat, Lucky.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Paul Maiewski, Harold Yost and Anthony Melnick, and her sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Joseph Parchuck.

Calling hours are 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 24 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 8 Storm Avenue, Hudson.

Services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Bruce Hilton (1957 – 2013)

ALBANY— Bruce E. Hilton, 55, of Niverville died Friday, April 19, 2013 at Albany Medical Center.

Born December 8, 1957 in Hudson, he was the son of Gerald J. Hilton (Jan Seagroat), who resides in Stockport and the late Anna (Gillis) Hilton.

Mr. Hilton was a Union Carpenter for Local #87 in Newburg and prior to that was a commercial fisherman and sea captain in Fort Myer’s, Florida and Texas.

He is survived by: his spouse, Kim Hopkins of Niverville; a daughter, Rochelle Hilton of Stockport; two brothers, Alfred Hilton (Jane) and Dale Hilton (Loreen), both of Stockport; three grandchildren, Bradley Mallinson, Elizabeth and Silas Rivers; three nieces, Jill Hilton and Anna Marie Delaney, both of Stockport; Sarah Hopkins of Niverville and his steadfast companion, Lacey.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 23 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Inc., Valatie. Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to www.clearwater.org.

Joseph W. Plass (1946 – 2013)

HUDSON—Joseph W. Plass, 67, of Craryville passed away Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born in Hudson, April 14, 1946, he was the son of the late Stanley and Nellie Plass.

Mr. Plass worked for the Columbia County Highway Department for 10 years before retiring. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his canine companions, Tasha and Peanut.

Mr. Plass is survived by his devoted sons, Jason Plass, Jeremy Plass and Joseph Plass, other family members and friends.

Joanna Lucille Kennedy (1927 – 2013)

SPENCERTOWN—Joanna Lucille Kennedy, 86, of Spencertown died Friday, April 12 at her residence.

She was born March 27, 1927 in Sidney Center, the daughter of the late Lewis and Jenny (Finch) Lambrecht.

She owned a beauty shop in the Sidney area for several years and when she and her husband, the late Francis Kennedy, came to this area, they owned and operated a general store and gas pump business in Austerlitz in the early 1960s.

Mrs. Kennedy also worked as a seamstress in the area for several years and for 10 years she was an observer in the Beebe Hill Fire Tower in Austerlitz. She is a communicant of the St. James Roman Catholic Church in Chatham.

She is survived by: her children, Daniel F. Kennedy of Ghent, Timothy J. Kennedy of New York City, Kevin L. Kennedy of Spencertown and Laurie Kennedy Demars of Colonie; her brother Edward Lambrecht of Binghamton; her sister, Judy McCall of Zephyr Hills, FL, and her dear sister-in-law, Pauline Lambrecht of Trout Creek; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis, who she was married to for 56 years; sisters, Leona, Evelyn, Phyllis and brother, Anthony.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18 from the St. James Roman Catholic Church, Chatham. Interment followed in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill 12414. Arrangements were with the Wenk Funeral Home, Chatham.
