CHATHAM – Chatham’s Democratic Committee Caucus has unanimously nominated Landra Haber of Valatie and Kandace Eaton of Old Chatham to run for the two town council positions up for election this fall.

Ms. Eaton, a retired teacher, served as Teacher Association president, gaining experience in negotiating, finances, cost control and staff management.

She is also an active community volunteer, including serving as a 4H leader, working with Freedom Guide dogs and judging at the Columbia County Fair.

“We have a unique community and I have the skills needed to develop and implement plans that will help plan for future needs while preserving our uniqueness,” Ms. Easton said in a press release from the committee.

Ms. Haber worked with the Mental Health Association of New York State and CASA Advocates for Children in Albany. She was an Ichabod Crane Board of Education member for 13 years.

“I learned the intricacies of budgeting and policy, came to understand the necessity of long-term planning, and learned how important it is to keep working on an issue until its resolution,” Ms. Haber said in the release. “I also realized the necessity of working collaboratively. When people listen to each other with respect, solutions can almost always be found.”

The caucus also nominated Republicans Beth Anne Rippel for town clerk and Joseph Rickert for highway superintendent. The release said the caucus participants viewed both have served all Town of Chatham residents well in their respective positions.
