Fertik earns spot on Claverack ballot

CLAVERACK–Philmont resident Ed Fertik has gathered enough petition signatures to qualify for a spot on the November ballot in the race for town supervisor.

Mr. Fertik said Wednesday that he will run on the Freedom Party, which has no national organization but which he said has been a topic of interest as a possible third party appealing to conservative Republicans, Libertarians and Tea Party supporters. His place on the ballot will make for a three-way race for the top town office this fall.

Incumbent Robin Andrews, a Democrat, is seeking reelection and Town Board member Clifford Weigelt has the backing of the town Republican Committee in the supervisor race.
Mr. Fertik hosts a radio show on community radio station WGXC called The Right Opinion, but he is taking a leave of absence from the station to run for office.
The candidate said he has been riding his bike throughout the town, meeting voters where they live and work.
