CHATHAM – The outcome of the race for two seats on the Town Board is still too close to call, with each of the four candidates running for the two seats having some statistical chance of winning.

The County Board of Elections plans to count 61 absentee ballots from the November 5 election Monday, November 18. The unofficial vote tallies from the ballot-scannning voting machines Election night were: Henry Swartz, 572; Landra Haber, 562; Maria Lull, 559; Kandace Eaton, 557.

County Board of Elections Democratic Commissioner Virginia Martin wrote in an email to The Columbia Paper that “if there’s a tie, the Town Board on January 1 appoints someone to serve for a year and the race goes on the November 2014 ballot.”

Mr. Swartz and Ms. Lull are currently on the board. They both ran on the Republican, Conservative and an Independence lines.

Ms. Haber and Ms. Eaton ran on the Democratic and Working Families lines.
