James J. Horkan (1951 – 2014)
POUGHKEEPSIE—James J. Horkan, 62, a lifelong area resident, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born August 20, 1951 in Rhinebeck, he was the son of Jean (Lewis) Horkan of Red Hook and the late James Horkan, Jr.
Mr. Horkan attended Red Hook schools and in 1971 he joined the United States Air Force.
He also was a former member of the Red Hook Fire Company.
For many years, Mr. Horkan worked in road construction and as a truck driver, most recently for the Albany Transport, Inc.
He married Rosalie Boyian September 28, 1991 in Germantown and she survives at home.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by: his children, James, Caitlin, Michael, Kenny and Heather; his grandchildren, Derek, Holden, Christian, Madison Rose and Isabella; by his siblings, Patricia Beecher, Madeline Whittaker, Theresa Horkan, Jean Horkan and Michael Horkan.
Mr. Horkan’s family extends thanks to the staff of D-Wing at the Baptist Home for their caring and devotion.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes on Saturday, February 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. with the Reverend Fred Cartier officiating. Burial will be in the spring at St. John’s Reformed Church Cemetery, Red Hook.

Norma L. Dunn (1925 – 2014)
HUDSON—Norma L. Dunn passed away February 12, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born on November 30, 1925 in Pittsfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus and Blanche Almstead Coons.
She grew up in Chatham and graduated from high school there. She also attended Berkshire Business School. After school she worked for the Chatham Telephone Company, Watt’s Jewelry Store and later Delson’s.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 42 Ladies Auxiliary in Chatham and spent her time knitting and crocheting. What she loved most was spending time with her family.
Mrs. Dunn is survived by: her daughters, Carol Dunn and Eileen (John) Young; her grandchildren, Ashley (Bobby) Doyle, Dan (Abby) Young and Leah Young; her great-grandchildren, Avery, Peyton, Blake and Lucy and her cat, Kitty Cat.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard and her son, Thomas.
A religious service was held at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, Saturday, February 15. Interment will take place at St. James Cemetery, Ghent. To convey a condolence visit frenchblasl.com.
Barbara Craig Brennan (1932 – 2014)
MORAGA, CA—Barbara Craig Brennan, 81, long-time resident of West Copake, died peacefully January 26, 2014.
She was born August 20, 1932 to the late Joseph and Alma Craig and raised in Apple River, Illinois.
She graduated from the Platteville State Teachers College in Wisconsin and later received her master’s degree from the State University of New York at New Paltz.
She taught elementary school for many years, first in the Hudson City School District and then at Roeliff Jansen and Taconic Hills.
She and Edward Joseph Brennan were married in 1956 and moved to West Copake in 1963.
Mr. Brennan died in 2002.
Mrs. Brennan was also predeceased by her grandson, John Robert Carrick in 2010, and by her sister, Lois Slaght in 2012.
She is survived by: her children, Paul Brennan and his wife Annie, Mary Ann Carrick and her husband James, Sara Brennan and her husband Ed Gump, Patrick Brennan and his wife Anne Ferry, and Laura Brennan; grandchildren, Edward Carrick, Richard Carrick, Grace Anne Carrick, Lucy Brennan and Gloria Ferry Brennan; great-grandson, Laszlo McDowell; and her sister’s daughters, Suzanne Wright and Cathy Willis.
Those who knew Mrs. Brennan will remember what a beautiful spirit she had, and the loving kindness with which she smiled on everyone. There will be a memorial service at the West Copake Reformed Church, 2692 County Route 7, Saturday, February 22 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the Brennan family home afterward.

Frank W. Brenner (1925 – 2014)
HUDSON—Frank W. Brenner passed away peacefully February 13, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 1, 1925 in Hudson. He attended Hudson High School and was very athletic and played many sports.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. Mr. Brenner loved New Zealand and returned there many times over the years. He attended Berkshire Business College in Pittsfield, MA, and did accounting at Wilson, Simmons and Armour Company.
Mr. Brenner was a gentle and loving man. He lived his life by example and was true to his values. He enjoyed home, his brothers and family.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s/ Holy Trinity Parish in Hudson.
Mr. Brenner is survived by: his brothers, Louis Brenner and John Brenner; his daughters, Dawn (Charles) Lossi and Claudia Bounds; grandchildren, Mary (Robert) Fitzgerald, Trisha Marie Lossi, Richard Long, James Long, Stephen Chamberlin, Clinton Preston, III; great-grandchildren, Samantha and John Fitzgerald.
A private service will take place at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home in Greenport at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
Wilbur W. Clark (1925 – 2014)
CHATHAM—Wilbur W. Clark went home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 13, 2014.
He was born in Edgefield, SC, August 23, 1925.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper and was in the Pacific Arena in both the Philippines and Japan.
He retired from the Nassau County Police Force and moved to the Chatham area where he worked at the Berkshire Farm for Boys, retiring from there in 1998.
He leaves behind: his wife of 67 years, Helen; three children, Roger W. Clark of Wappinger Falls, Barbara (Douglas) Hollinsworth of North Bellmore and Betty (Ed) Hunt of East Chatham; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Eric and Christine.
Calling hours will be Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham from 2 to 5 p.m.
A funeral service will take place at the funeral home, Monday, February 17 at 11 a.m. Attendees should gather at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Cemetery of the Maples, East Chatham.
