Iva R. Brown (1941 – 2014)

HUDSON—Iva R. Brown, 72, of Hudson passed away at home, Monday, March 17, 2014.

Born October 1, 1941 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Reuben and Margaret (Gardinier) Risch.

She was a sewing machine operator at McGuire’s.

Ms. Brown enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Surviving are: three sons, Kenneth Ford of Hudson, Robert Ford of Tennessee, and Frank Ford, Jr., of Catskill; her daughter, Kelly Ford Smith of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Kendra Ford, Taran Smith, Gianna Ford, and Ashley Ford; her sister, Sandy Coons of Hudson; her brother, Ronald Risch of Hudson; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Chastity Merritt.

A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 22 in the Providence Hall Community Room.

Donations may be made to the family.

Barbara May Szlachetka (1924 – 2014)

HUDSON—Barbara May Szlachetka, 89, born August 31, 1924 in Chatham, passed away March 17, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed reading, puzzle books and her nightly 7 o’clock phone calls with her daughter. She had a big heart and would do anything for anyone.

Mrs. Szlachetka was employed by the Universal Match Company for 35 years. She was a previous member of the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

She is survived by: her two sons, John and wife Elfriede, Michael and daughter Cheryl; sister, Alice Wheeler; brother, Stuart McGeary; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, John and daughter, Beverly.

In celebration of her life, a service was held March 21 at Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Szlachetka’s memory may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 8 Storm Avenue, Hudson 12534.

Arrangements were entrusted to the M. Grimaldi Funeral Home.

Beatrice T. Lugert (1914 – 2014)

PHILMONT—Beatrice T. Lugert, 99, formerly of Hudson, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.

Born in Schenectady, May 30, 1914, she was the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Hall) LaBrie.

She worked as a sales clerk for Ziesenitz office supplies in Hudson for more than 25 years. She was a member of the Trippers, Greenport Pumper Company#1 Auxiliary and Christ Church Episcopal. She enjoyed knitting, reading and playing the piano.

Mrs. Lugert is survived by: two sons, Royal (Judith) Dingman of Columbiaville and Bruce (Elizabeth) Dingman of Mount Vernon, Indiana; five grandchildren, David, Bonnie, Stephanie, Brian and Christopher; a step-son, George “Art” Lugert of Savannah, Georgia; several great-grandchildren; nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Maxwell Dingman and John Lugert; her sister, Dorothy Spencer; her brother, Richard LaBrie; two step-sons, Paul Lugert and John “Jack” Lugert.

Services and burial will take place in the spring.

Deborah Wood-Zanin (1949 – 2014)

VALATIE—Deborah Wood-Zanin, 64, of Valatie died Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at her home.

Born June 9, 1949 in Oneida, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth Collins and Elsin (Talentino) Collins of Oneida.

Ms. Wood-Zanin worked as a dispatcher for Hannaford in Schodack Landing and was the former owner of the Val-Kin Convenience store in Valatie.

Besides her mother, she is survived by two: daughters, Christine and Jennifer Wood, both of Valatie; a sister, Christine Iselo (Pete) of Pennsylvania; a brother, Kenneth Collins (Cheryl), Jr., of Batavia; one niece, Brianne Collins; two nephews, Ryan Collins and Peter Jacob Iselo and her best friend, Karen Gaspard (Jeff) of Valatie.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Roger Zanin and Grant Wood and a brother, Timothy Collins.

Funeral services and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
