Epiphanio Lazzara (1919 – 2014)

VALATIE—Epiphanio “Eppy” Lazzara of Columbiaville died Saturday April 12, 2014 at Barnwell Nursing Home.

Born January 1, 1919 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Augustino and Lillina Lazzara.

Mr. Lazzara served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a meat cutter for the First National and A&P stores in Hudson.

He is survived by: his loving wife, Betty Lazzara (DuPont); his sons and daughter, Philip and (Debbie) Lazzara of Hawaii, Robert and (Cathy) Lazzara of Columbiaville, Mark and (Barbara) Lazzara of Columbiaville, Jill and (Richard) Van Alphen of Columbiaville; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Jonathan, Jessica and Jennifer, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 16, noon, at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stockport Fire Company, P.O. Box 158, Columbiaville 12050.

Elizabeth Mayhood (1922 – 2014)

HUDSON—Elizabeth Mayhood passed away at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a short illness, April 11, 2014.

She was born March 3, 1922 in Corona, the daughter of Sadie and Frank Mayhood.

The family moved to East Chatham in 1926.

Ms. Mayhood attended Chatham Schools and graduated in 1940. She continued her education at New York University and Pratt Institute, receiving a master’s degree in dietetics.

She was the head of the Dietary Department at John Andrus Memorial Home in Hastings-on-Hudson for 32 years. She was a member of the ADA and a lifelong learner.

Ms. Mayhood was predeceased by her parents and sisters, Evelyn and Marie. She is survived by nephews, David Sleezer (Mary), Barry Gimpel (Jean) and niece, Terry Lynn Knott.

There is no wake. The family will conduct a graveside service. A memorial service in celebration of her life will take place at the Mt. Pleasant Reformed Church at a later date.
