Catherine M. Mathieu (1930 – 2014)
RHINEBECK—Catherine M. Mathieu, 83, of Milan died Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Thompson House.
A Milan resident since the 1950s, she and her husband moved there from the Bronx. She was a member of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook and was a longtime supporter of the POW/MIA.
Born November 21, 1930 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Josephine (Mangan) Sullivan.
She married George Mathieu, March 17, 1948 in the Bronx. He predeceased her September 13, 2000.
Mrs. Mathieu is survived by her loving family: her children, Susan (Edward) Evans of Milan, George (Annie) Mathieu of Cambridge, Allen Mathieu of Red Hook, Robert (Diane) Mathieu of Staatsburg and Scott (Cheryl) Mathieu of Livingston; two sisters, Mary Gossman of West Islip and Patricia Koehler of North Babylon; seven grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
A son, John, predeceased her in 1994.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday, May 27, 10:30 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook. The Reverend Xavier Santiago will officiate. Burial will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Home, Red Hook, Monday, May 26 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Flora Hill (1923 – 2014)
SHARON, CT—Flora Hill, 90, of Pine Plains passed away Friday, May 23, 2014 at Sharon Health Care Center.
She was born November 4, 1923 in Pine Plains, the daughter of the late Joseph and May (Pectal) Houle.
Mrs. Hill was an assembler for Schatz Federal Bearing Company in Poughkeepsie.
On October 20, 1946 in Pine Plains, she married Floyd R. Hill. He predeceased her April 17, 2008.
Mrs. Hill loved to read, cook, work in her garden and travel to their Schroon Lake cabin.
Survivors include: a daughter, Kathy Hill of Craryville; two sons, Richard Hill and his wife Marguerite of Pine Plains and Douglas Hill of Copake; four grandchildren, Michael Hill, Daniel, Jeffrey and Thomas Mosher.
She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother.
Calling hours are Wednesday, May 28, 10 to 11 a.m. at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, South Main Street, Pine Plains.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Gregg Higgins officiating.
Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mary Ann Engel (1943 – 2014)
HUDSON—Mary Ann Engel, 70 years old, of Ghent passed away May 22 in Hudson.
She was surrounded by her loving husband of 53 years, her children and grandchildren.
She was born July 19, 1943 in Watervliet to James and Edith (Rich) Simmons.
Raised in Chatham, she graduated from Chatham High School in 1961. She married her childhood sweetheart, August 26, 1961 and they lived in Ghent for most of their married life.
Mrs. Engel worked at the Chatham Milk House where she and the band of merry women managed to serve and entertain all who entered. She also enjoyed her career as a manager at the B.H. Delson’s department store, where if they didn’t have it, you didn’t need it. A prominent figure about town, Mrs. Engel was involved in a number of school and community organizations. She was most proud of her involvement in raising money to save the sports program at Chatham High School in the early 1980s. Mrs. Engel will be remembered for her ability to engage anyone, her generosity and love of the underdog. But she will best be remembered for a sense of humor that “would engulf all around her.”
She will be sorely missed by many, particularly her husband, Stanley T. Engel; daughter, Kelly Harrison (David); son, Michael Engel (Anna).
Also surviving are: her brothers, James Simmons and Robert Simmons; her sister, Linda Simmons; her grandchildren, Daniel Harrison, Lee Harrison, Adam Harrison, Emily Engel, Jessica Scharoun and Lisa Gramling; her great-grandchildren, Maddie and Max Gramling and Abagail Scharoun, who will miss her as well.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 27, noon from the St. James R.C. Church, Chatham. Burial will be in the West Ghent Cemetery.

Delores E. Housman (1942 – 2014)
HUDSON—Delores E. Housman, age 71, of Hudson died Monday, May 26, 2014 at her residence.
Born July 10, 1942 in Catskill, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Elsie (DuBois) Young.
She was employed at Whittier Adult Home in Ghent in the housekeeping department. Mrs. Housman was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson and was a Carmelite Lay Person in Schenectady.
Mrs. Housman is survived by: her devoted husband, Charles M. Housman; her loving sons, Charles A. Housman of Hudson, Christopher J. Housman of Geneva and Michael J. Housman of Hudson; devoted siblings, Gloria Young of Catskill, Joyce Clardy of Warrensburg, Arthur and Robert Young, both of Catskill, and Albert Young of Cairo; along with many nieces and nephews.
