VALATIE—Dale R. Parent, Jr., 36, of Valatie was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor, by State Police investigators from Livingston, July 21 at 12:30 a.m.
Troopers were dispatched to a Valatie home to check on the welfare of a three-year-old child who was believed to be home alone.
An investigation revealed that Mr. Parent left the child home, unattended. Child Protective Services was notified by the investigating troopers.
Mr. Parent was issued a ticket ordering him to appear in Kinderhook Town Court July 29.
Shane M. Veach, Jr., 21, of Livingston was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, fourth degree criminal mischief and second degree harassment by State Police from Livingston, July 21.
Troopers responded to a Columbia County 911 dispatch reporting a dispute. Their investigation revealed that Mr. Veach allegedly choked the victim and caused damage to property in the victim’s home.
He was arraigned in Livingston Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail. Mr. Veach is scheduled to reappear in court August 14.
Edward J. Macleod, 43, of Nassau was charged with second degree criminal contempt, fourth degree criminal mischief, fourth degree criminal mischief (preventing request for emergency) and second degree harassment by State Police from New Lebanon, July 13.
Mr. Macleod allegedly went to a woman’s Chatham residence in violation of an order of protection. While there, he allegedly got into a physical altercation with the woman and damaged her property.
He was arraigned in Chatham Town Court before Town Justice James Borgia-Forster, was released on $1,000 cash bail and ordered to reappear at a later date.
Two people were rushed to area hospitals after their Honda CR-V sport utility vehicle went off the road and rolled over, trapping them inside. The accident occurred on County Route 27, near Reservoir Road, Taghkanic, July 21 at 7:42 a.m. State Police told newsman Lance Wheeler that vehicle left the road after a sharp curve and traveled about 75 yards before landing in a muddy ditch. It took Churchtown firefighters with mutual aid from Taghkanic firefighters with their Jaws of Life about 30 minutes to free the occupants of the vehicle. A LifeNet helicopter airlifted one person to the Albany Medical Center from a landing zone at the Churchtown fire station and the Greenport Rescue Squad took the other to AMC by ground. Firefighters were back in service at 9:15 a.m.
The following face drug- and/or alcohol-related charges:
*Richard S. Bersaw, 48, of Stuyvesant was charged with driving while intoxicated by State Police from Kinderhook, July 13. Troopers were alerted by Columbia County 911 about complaints that Mr. Bersaw nearly hit numerous cars and mailboxes in the Villages of Valatie and Kinderhook. He provided a breath sample with a .15% blood alcohol content. He was issued uniform traffic tickets returnable in Kinderhook Village Court July 21.
*Diane J. Jacobs, 44, of Pittsfield, MA, was charged with for fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana by State Police from New Lebanon, July 14 at 8:30 p.m.
Ms. Jacobs was found to be in possession of 32 grams of marijuana following an investigation on Route 20. She was issued a ticket to appear in New Lebanon Court July 24.
*James G. Rawson of Bennington, Vermont, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a class E felony under Leandra’s Law, by State Police from New Lebanon, July 15 at 7:50 p.m. Troopers stopped the car Mr. Rawson was operating on State Route 20 for a seatbelt violation. An investigation revealed that he was intoxicated at the time of the stop, and had two children as passengers.
Mr. Rawson was arraigned in New Lebanon Court and released on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to reappear July 24.
*Joseph F. Lassial, 57, of Valatie was charged with felony driving while intoxicated (prior conviction) by State Police from Livingston, July 18 at 10:40 p.m. Mr. Lassial was charged at a sobriety check point on State Route 9, Kinderhook. Mr. Lassial provided a breath sample with a .14% blood alcohol content. He was issued traffic tickets ordering him to appear in Kinderhook Town Court August 12.
