Irene E. Gage (1921 – 2014)

HUDSON—Irene E. Gage, 92, of Kinderhook died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born August 4, 1921 in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Ludovic and Frances (Molinowski) Chicoine.

During World War II, Mrs. Gage worked at the Watervliet Arsenal as a tool and die maker. She also worked for the New York State Department of Health and was an accountant for the New York State Banking Department for many years, retiring from there.

With her husband, she owned and operated R & I Sports Shop in Valatie for 20 years. She was also a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and a member of St. John’s Elves.

She is survived by: her husband, Rodney Gage; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Alice Gauvreau and Lillian Granato.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 14, 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie, with the Reverend John Molyn officiating.

Burial will be in Kinderhook Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, July 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E Bond Funeral Home, Valatie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, 1025 Kinderhook Street, Valatie 12184.

Frank “Wick” Drummond (1928 – 2014)

RHINEBECK—Frank “Wick” Drummond, a U.S. Navy veteran, died of natural causes at Northern Dutchess Hospital, Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the age of 86.

Born June 6, 1928 in Louisville, KY, he was the youngest of four children.

Educated at Yale University School of Music, Mr. Drummond taught piano in Ridgefield, CT, for 10 years. After that, along, with a business partner, he restored pianos.  A truly dedicated craftsman, his last vocation was remodeling homes, along with two other partners.

Upon moving to Germantown, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of designing and building his own home, for which he received many compliments through the years.

Mr. Drummond was a connoisseur of classical music and very much enjoyed the arts in general.

He is survived by his wife, Sally, and son, Craig.

A true gentleman, fine father, and devoted husband, he will be greatly missed.

William Van Etten (1934 – 2014)

HUDSON—William Van Etten, 80, of Hudson died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born April 30, 1934 in Upper Red Hook, he was the son of the late Floyd and Maude (Lasher) Van Etten.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Rose Marie Sherman; two brothers, Luther Van Etten and Junior Van Etten; and three sisters, Betsy Stickles, Maryanne Kipp and Anna Mae Van Etten.

Mr. Van Etten is survived by: his brother, Franklin Van Etten; three daughters, Rhonda Van Etten of Hudson, Tuesday Russell of Greenport and Mitzi Van Etten of Hudson; his son, William D. Van Etten of Churchtown; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He worked for the City of Hudson Department of Public Works until retiring.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Providence Hall in Hudson.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Kathleen M. White (1950 – 2014)

GHENT—Kathleen M. White passed away July 12, 2014 at her home after a long illness.

She was born August 7, 1950 in Hudson, the daughter of the late Francis H. and Mary Dunn Howe.

She was a graduate of Chatham Central Schools and went on to study education and earned an associate’s degree at SUNY Farmingdale, a bachelor’s degree at SUNY Geneseo and a master’s in special education at the College of St. Rose. She spent her entire career in the Chatham Central School District.

Mrs. White was past-president of Chatham Central Schools Teachers Association. She was a past co-director of the Ghent Food Pantry, current member and past-president of the Alpha Nu, Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society and a lifetime communicant of St. James Church.

She is survived by: her devoted husband, Richard A.; her loving children, Allison (Colin) Heilman and Richard F. (Margaret); her grandchildren, Avery, Owen and Thaddeus; her sister, Theresa Hanson; brothers, John and James Howe; several nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, Chatham, Monday, July 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, July 15, noon at St. James Church, Chatham. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery, Ghent.
