Rosalie E. Dedrick (1938 – 2014)

ALBANY—Rosalie Dedrick, 76, of Valatie passed away August 5, 2014 at St. Peter’s Hospice Inn.

She was born in Hudson, January 22, 1938.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert (Bob) Dedrick of Valatie; her loving children, Kathleen (Arnold) Hagadone of Valatie, Peter (Tara) Dedrick of Catskill, Robert (Judith) Dedrick of Niverville and Keith (Sandra) Dedrick of Kinderhook; beloved grandchildren, April Hagadone, Kathy Hagadone, Kelly (Angie) Dedrick, Nathan Hagadone, Gregory (Stefanie) Dedrick, Peter Dedrick, Amanda (Jeremy) Fish, Christopher (Katie) Dedrick and Joshua Dedrick; as well as her cherished great grandchildren, Chrystal Hagadone, Isabella Marcantel, Jacob Fish, Ariana Wolfe, Evan Fish, Madeline Flory, Landon Dedrick, Adalynn Fish and Jeffrey Dedrick; sisters, Marcia Clifford, Betty Miller and Loretta Dedrick; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond and Jessie (Kinnicutt) Williams; her brother, Gerald Williams and sister, Margaret Potwin. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Friday, August 15, 7 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend James Slater officiating. Contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Columbia/Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill 12414.

Ralph Joseph Edmiston (1937 – 2014)

VALATIE—Brother Ralph Joseph Edmiston, 77, passed away August 4, 2014 in Valatie.

A member of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Moreau Province, Brother Ralph was born March 10, 1937 in Philadelphia, PA.

He received a Catholic education from primary school through college, earning undergraduate and graduate degrees at Villanova University.

Brother Ralph served in the U.S. Marine Corps reserves and saw active duty in 1960. He received an honorable discharge with the rank of corporal E-4.

Mr. Edmiston was received into Holy Cross as a novice in 1965, made his first profession of vows as a religious brother August 23, 1966, and professed his final vows August 23, 1970. Br. Ralph served the Holy Cross mission of education, first as a teacher and coach, and then especially as a development director. He served at St. John the Baptist School, Hillsdale, NJ, Saint Edmond’s Academy, Wilmington, DE, Bishop McNamara High School, Forestville, MD, and at Holy Cross High School, Queens. He was well-known for his involvement in the highly successful yearly walk-a-thons at Holy Cross High School, Queens. He retired in 2013 to St. Joseph Center, Valatie.

Anne C. Smith (1938 – 2014)

VALATIE—Anne C. Smith of Valatie passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones, Thursday, August 7, 2014 at the age of 76.

She was born in Clyde Bank, Scotland, May 17, 1938, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth McCauley.

She came to America at the age of 16 and lived in Brooklyn where she worked in a law firm on Wall Street until she married her husband of 32 years.

In 1972 she moved upstate, to Valatie, where she raised her 7 children and was blessed with 18 beautiful grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren as a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fergus; daughter, Theresa Garland and grandson, Brandon Smith.

She was a spiritual woman who loved people, especially her family and friends. She loved to travel and spent much of her days saying the rosary for the sick. She was loved by all and will be truly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by: six children, Brian Smith and Christopher Smith (Christine) both of Schodack, Timothy Smith (Lisa) of Kinderhook, Bernadette Carman (James) of Schodack, Kathleen Frances (Mark) of Valatie and Jennifer Desmonie (Stephen) of Nassau; two brothers, John McCauley (Patricia) of Valatie and Anthony McCauley of Malta; a sister Bernadette Campion of Niverville; her son-in-law, Thomas Garland of East Greenbush and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, August 11 at St. John the Baptist Church, Route 9, Valatie, with the Reverend Joseph O’Brien officiating.

Interment followed in St. John’s Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia Greene, 47 Liberty Street, Catskill 12414.

Arrangements were with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie.

Paula A. Rodriquez (1961 – 2014)

ALBANY—Paula A. Rodriquez, 52, of North Chatham died Friday, August 8, 2014 at Albany Memorial Hospital.

She was born August 26, 1961 in Hudson, the daughter of the late Jose Rodriquez and Elizabeth Stalker of Valatie. Ms. Rodriquez was a help truck driver for First Transit in Amsterdam and patrolled the Capital District roads for eight years. She was known as the “Highway Angel.” She was loved and cherished by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.

Besides her mother, she is survived by: her spouse, Tracey Fisher-Rodriquez; three children, Analicia Gutierrez, Melinda and Dylan Bryant; siblings, Kenneth, John, James, Jose and Joanne Rodriquez, Deborah Stalker and Mary Moore and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Anthony Rodriquez.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, August 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. at the Raymond E Bond Funeral Home, Valatie. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Phyllis “Felicina” E. Poppiti (1922 – 2014)

HUDSON—Phyllis “Felicina” E. Poppiti, 92, of Hudson passed away Thursday, August 7, 2014.

Born June 12, 1922 in Pai, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Felix and Giustina (Ronsani) Cavallari.

She came to the United States as a teenager.

She married her beloved husband, Charles C. Poppiti, July 18, 1943 in Hudson. They just celebrated their 71st anniversary.

Mrs. Poppiti was a homemaker and an adoring grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her husband and family. She was a great cook and loved gardening.

In addition to her beloved husband, Charles, she leaves: her devoted children, her daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Dr. Howard Lubin of Devon, Pennsylvania, and Joseph Poppiti of Albany; four loving grandchildren, Bradford Oberwager of San Francisco, CA, Jane Scalcione of Milan, Italy, Andrew Oberwager of New York, and Elisabeth Lubin of Devon, Pennsylvania; three loving great-grandchildren, Lauren and Lucas Oberwager of San Francisco and Isabella Scalcione of Milan; her sister, Elsie Fiorillo of Florida, and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, August 11 at St. Mary’s Church in Hudson. Burial was in Cedar Park Cemetery.

Donna T. Bemiss (1956 – 2014)

CHATHAM—Donna “Dooda” T. Bemiss, 58, of Chatham passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at home.

She was born January 6, 1956 in Albany to John Devine and Mary (Carr) Devine.

On August 13, 1983, she married to Edward G. Bemiss, Sr., of Chatham.

Mrs. Bemiss was an office manager in Chatham for R.H. Van Alstyne’s for 10 years. She was a devoted member of St. James Church in Chatham. She was an active member of the Northern Columbia County Rotary Club for 13 years, serving on the board, was a past-president for two years and was currently the treasurer. She served as past-assistant governor for Rotary District 7210 and for the past five years, as the outbound director for youth exchange.  Mrs. Bemiss was also a charter member of the Chatham Village Historical Society and served as its president for about 12 years. The campaign to revitalize the Blinn-Pulver Farmhouse began under her presidency.  As well as being a devoted wife and loving grandmother, she was an avid golfer and quilter. She often donated and raffled off her quilts to benefit the Rotary Club, among others.

She leaves behind: her beloved husband, Ed; her step-sons, Michael Bemiss and his wife Erica of Chatham and Edward Bemiss, Jr., of Chatham. She also leaves sisters, Virginia Gonzalez and her husband Anthony of Menands and Mary Devine of the Bronx; brothers, William Devine and his wife Vera of Mechanicville and Jack Devine of Jersey City, New Jersey; several nieces and nephews; three grandsons, Julian, Michael and Christopher.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2014, 7 to 9 p.m. at Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014, 10 a.m. at St. James Church in Chatham.  Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Rotary Foundation, c/o Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham 12037.
