GERMANTOWN—Jazz and junk were two of the topics at Monday’s Town Board meeting.

Resident Frank Mammone again appeared before the board to complain about the debris on his neighbor’s property that is visible from his property. The problem has persisted for months, without Mr. Mammone or the town having any effect on the situation. The neighbor is building a fence, but the debris is visible through it.

Monday’s conclusion was that Mr. Mammone should hire a lawyer to protect his property rights. His neighbor already has a lawyer.

Mr. Mammone was followed by Tom Barberi, who complained about eyesores across from two different properties he owns in town.

On a different note, Cheryl Jean received the board’s endorsement for the Germantown Jazz Project. In collaboration with Planet Arts in Catskill and ArtSpace in Germantown, the Jazz Project plans a series of three concerts this year.

In the first, vibraphonist and composer Joe Locke performs at Central House on Main Street Saturday, April 25. Only 80 tickets will be sold. Central House will be decorated with the jazz portraits of photographer Chuck Stewart. Mr. Stewart’s photographs of jazz greats such as Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington are in the Smithsonian Institution, said Ms. Jean.

The second concert may take place in the town park, during the summer.

In other business this week:

—The board rescinded a September resolution and voted instead to hire Peter Volkmann to study the town’s part-time Police Department and make recommendations. Mr. Volkmann will be paid the cost of his driving mileage to do an evaluation of the Police Department beginning in January 2015. The vote was unanimous.

—Saturday, December 13 is the holiday tree lighting and stroll, beginning at 5 p.m.

—Councilman Donald Westmore said that ArtSpace, 71 Palatine Park Road, opens a Holiday Gift Fair Saturday, November 29 from 5 to 7 p.m. Affordable artworks, photography, handmade items and signed books for children are all on sale. The fair continues on the next two weekends, Saturdays 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

—Councilwoman Andrea Dunn said volunteers are needed for children’s activities, for example, during the tree lighting evening, when volunteers are needed for storytelling, to assist Santa Claus and to help children with crafts

—Maintenance director Anthony Cidras said that while he was replacing the roof on the concession stand in the town park, he saw that the tree next to it was infected with emerald ash borer, so he had the tree taken down.

All board members and about a dozen residents attended the meeting.

The board’s next regular meeting is Monday, December 22 at 7 p.m. The board’s last workshop meeting of the year is Monday December 15, at 7 p.m.
