Roy W. Cole (1927 – 2014)

VALATIE—Roy W. Cole, 87, of Valatie died Thursday, November 20, 2014 at his home.

Born October 20, 1927 in Staten Island, he was the son of the late Roy W. and Elizabeth (Trumpler) Cole.

Mr. Cole was a 1945 graduate of Port Richmond High School in Staten Island. He worked as a carpenter for Local 20 in Staten Island, Local 265 in Saugerties and Local 370 in Albany, before retiring.

He married Martha (Graham) Cole in Valatie in 1983. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was loved very much by all his family.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: a daughter, Nancy Tosca of Jacksonville, FL; a son, Roy Cole of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; three stepdaughters, Robin Jane Gardinier of Stuyvesant, Wendy Sue Pulver of Boca Raton, FL, and Jody Lynn O’Dell of Valatie; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Valatie, Monday, November 24 at 10 a.m. Calling hours will be at the Raymond E Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, Sunday, November 23 from 2 to 4 p.m.

John “Jack” Alton Collins, Jr. (1946 – 2014)

NEW HAVEN, CT—John “Jack” Alton Collins, Jr., of Chatham passed away November 20, 2014 at the Yale New Haven Hospital.

Born February 26, 1946 in Danbury, CT, he was the son of the late John and Lurline Collins.

He went on to graduate from Chatham High School in the class of 1967. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Marines and spent two years on active duty, including time in Viet Nam. He returned and put four years into the reserves.

Mr. Collins worked for Columbia Box Board, Crellin Plastics, Berkshire Farm and Amtrak. He was a member of the Stuyvesant Falls VFW, Chatham American Legion, Canaan Conservation Club and the Disabled American Veterans. He loved sports, especially the Red Sox and the Denver Broncos. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseracing.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Paul and David “Cricket” and sister, Maureen.

He is survived by: his son, Richard (Patty); grandsons, John Patrick and Daniel (Isabella) Kuhner; great-granddaughter, Valentina; siblings, Alton (Gloria), Carl, Cheryl Brill (Edward), Karen Willis (Harold), Keith (Lisa) and Michael; sister-in-law, Diane Collins; his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and aunts.

Calling hours will be held Monday, November 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the French, Gifford, Preiter & Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.

A funeral service will be celebrated Tuesday, November 25, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Cemetery of the Maples in East Chatham.
