Betty Ahrens (1928 – 2015)

VALHALLA—Betty Ahrens of Germantown died February 10, 2015 at Westchester Medical Center.

Born November 22, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Edna (Myers) Cavanagh.

Prior to her retirement, she was a medical technologist at the Kingston City Laboratory in Kingston for many years. She also worked at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck and at the former Grand Union in Rhinebeck.

Ms. Ahrens was an avid reader who enjoyed gardening, camping, hunting, woodworking and working with stained glass.

She is survived by: her daughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) Ahrens and son, Frederick Ahrens, both of Florida; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Maryann Cooley.

There are no calling hours.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Catherine B. Harrison

TROY—Catherine B. Harrison, 86, formerly of Hudson died Friday February 13, 2015 at Van Rensselaer Manor Nursing Home.

She was born in Hudson to the late Edward and Catherine West.

Ms. Harrison worked as a telephone operator for New York Telephone and later devoted herself to raising her family. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with family.

She was predeceased by: her son, William E. Harrison; daughter, Catherine A. Wurster; brothers, Raymond West and Edward West and sister, Ann Marsh.

Ms. Harrison is survived by: her one daughter, Mary Ellen (Steven) Roullier; four grandchildren, Lowell Wurster, Kayla (Keith) Cushman, Catie Wurster and Chelsea (Douglas) Mastin; son-in-law, George Wurster and a great-granddaughter.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Wednesday, February 18, 10 a.m. from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson. Contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, Pine Bush Plaza Building 4, Suite 405, Albany 12205.

Hazel Smith (1918 – 2015)

PHILMONT—Hazel Smith, 96, of Hudson died Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Smith, Sr., her son, Harry Smith, Jr., and her grandson, Jeffery S. Smith.

Mrs. Smith is survived by: two sons, Eugene (Susan) Smith of Catskill and Gerald Smith, Sr., of Hudson; eight grandchildren, David Smith, Cheryl Smith, Melanie Vining, Carol Richards, Donna Stevenson, John Smith, Gerald Smith, Jr., and Valarie Crupi. She was a beloved aunt to Carol Sharpe and also a great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother to many.

Irene Brickley (1925 – 2015)

NEW MILFORD, CT—Irene Walendziak Pratt Brickley of Ghent died Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Candlewood Valley Health Center.

She was residing with her nephew, Ron Walendziak and his wife, Chappell in New Milford, CT, prior to her passing.

Mrs. Brickley was born December 9, 1925 in Brooklyn, to the late Alexander A. and Bertha R. Sitkowski Walendziak. She grew up in Brooklyn and was a resident of Florida before joining her family in Austerlitz, then moving with them to their home on Maple Avenue in Ghent, where she resided for many years.

Mrs. Brickley was a devoted communicant of St. James R. C. Church in Chatham where she was a greeter for many years sharing kisses and hugs with all who entered. She had great love and devotion to her family and was a loving caregiver to her brother, Ted during his extended illness.

She is survived by her step-son, Ray Pratt, his wife Mary Lou; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews and dearly cherished friends.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Ray Pratt and Chuck Brickley; brothers, Edward C. Walendziak, Walter Walendziak and Ted Walendziak and her sister, Opaline Mackowski.

Family will receive friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, Friday, February 20, 2015 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. James R.C. Church, Chatham at noon. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery, Ghent. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James R.C. Church, Chatham or Columbia Greene Community Hospice. Adelaide Feller (1941 – 2015)

RHINEBECK—Adelaide Feller, 73, of Red Hook, a lifelong area resident, passed away suddenly Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the Northern Dutchess Hospital.

Born November 4, 1941 in Rhinebeck, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Myra Mae (Coons) Race.

For many years she worked throughout the area, including at the Orchard Hill Farms (Red Hook Pie Factory), Denegar’s Farm and at the Red Hook VFW.

She was a proud member of the Tivoli Fire Company and also a life member of the Red Hook VFW Post Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by: her companion, Charles Coon of Red Hook; her children; Donald Coons, Jr., of Red Hook, Donna Van Leuven of Salt Point, Harry Coons of Elizaville, Mary Cohen of Red Hook, Teresa Coons of Hudson, Gary Coons of Hudson and Susan Gimmes of Hudson; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Race of Livingston and Robert Race of Tivoli; a sister, Arlene Lane, along with countless extended family and friends.

Ms. Feller was predeceased by two husbands, Robert Melvin Feller, Sr., and Donald Coons, Sr.; a daughter, Patricia Coons; a grandson, Donald J Coons, III; a sister, Blanche Coons and a brother, Leonard Race.

Louis H. Snow, Sr. (1946 – 2015)

ALBANY—Louis H. Snow, Sr., of Ghent died Friday, February 13, 2015 at Albany Medical Center.

Born June 14, 1946 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Wilhelmina and Robert C. Snow, Sr.

He attended Ockawamick Central School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970, earning the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, Expert M-16 Badge and Sharpshooter M-14 Badge.

Mr. Snow was a school bus driver, carpenter and auto mechanic. He loved to go snowmobiling and boating. He loved his dogs and the Demolition Derby at the Chatham Fair.

Mr. Snow was a loving son, partner, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and brother. His motto was “never fear to attempt to accomplish anything”.

He is survived by: his devoted lifelong partner, Janine E. Saucier; his brother, Richard Snow, Sr.; three sisters, Nancy Whitbeck, Joan Mottoshiski and Jeannetta Domkoski; his children, Louis H. Snow, II, (Tammy Rote), Daniel Snow, Dennis Snow, Brenna Bouchard (Michael Hayes) and Brady Bouchard (Jessica). Also surviving are his grandchildren, Audrey, Ashley, Louis, III, Amanda, and Dacey Snow, Hannah, Brendan and Hallie Bouchard and Derek Seiger; several great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert C. Snow, Jr., and a sister, Jennie Hoyt.

A calling hour will begin at 5 p.m., Thursday, February 19 at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Services will follow at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
