GERMANTOWN—The Dollar General retail store proposed for the west side of Route 9G is not on the agenda for the Planning Board meeting scheduled for tonight, February 26.

Jami Del Pozzo, Planning Board secretary, said Tuesday that Primax Properties, which has applied for a two-lot subdivision on which it would build a store and then lease it to Dollar General, had not withdrawn its application.

To date, she said, Primax is not on the Planning Board’s March 26 meeting agenda either, but the development corporation has until March 11 to inform Ms. Del Pozzo of its intentions.

At a January 29 information meeting hosted by the Planning Board and packed with town residents, town attorney Tal Rappleyea asked Mercurio, Norton, Tarolli and Marshall, civil engineers retained by Primax, to return with “photo simulations” of the proposed store and landscaping.

Dollar store plan sparks interest in G’town zoning

GERMANTOWN—Monday’s 45-minute Town Board meeting played out before a packed house, most of them residents concerned about the Dollar General retail store proposed for Route 9G just north of the Main Street stoplight.

During the public comment period, only a few in the audience spoke about the store, Supervisor Joel Craig reported Tuesday. Most seemed to have come to listen and seemed willing to learn, he said.

Suggestions were made about putting a moratorium on building in town and about updating the town’s 2011 zoning law. There was some confusion over the Planning Board’s review process, and that was explained. (For more on the Dollar General project see Page 7.)

Primax Properties, the development corporation, proposes to take one acre at the north end of a six-acre parcel in the town’s Business Development zone and build a store that Dollar General would lease. Such a proposal is subject to review by the planning board and a Public Hearing.

“My feeling is that we have a procedure in place, and we have to see how that goes,” Mr. Craig said Tuesday. “Then maybe we can tweak it.”

In other business at the meeting:

  • Susan L.S. Brown, superintendant of the Germantown Central School District, made a presentation about the district’s proposed $11.3 million capital project, which goes before district voters Tuesday, March 10. Members of the Facilities Planning Committee host a second and final information session on the Capital Project Tuesday, March 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafetorium
