Parry Teasdale Up and down situation At approximately 10:15 a.m. Saturday, July 25, Chatham Fire Department responded to a report of a fire alarm sounding and a smell of smoke from the top floor of 30-32 Main Street in the village. The Columbia County Sheriff's Office and Chatham Police also responded. A witness said a lighting fixture on the third floor had suddenly emitted sparks and some smoke. Firefighters checked the interior of the building and the roof from the ladder, above, and found no indication of a fire. Firefighters returned to quarters and Main Street was reopened to traffic shortly after 10:30 a.m.
