Lance S. Miller (1950 – 2015)

COPAKE—Lance S. Miller, 65, of Copake passed away Friday, December 18 at his residence.

He was born March 3, 1950 in Great Barrington, MA, the son of the late Palan P. and Marion J. (Sologub) Miller.

Mr. Miller was a graduate of the former Roeliff Jansen High School, class of 1969, and later served his country with the United States Army from 1970 to 1972.

He was employed by several manufacturing companies within Columbia County including the Kimberly-Clark Corp. in Ancram.

He was a member of the Copake VFW Post #7955 in Copake.

Survivors include: his daughters, Sarah O’Neil of Kinderhook and Nicole Miller of Copake; his grandchildren, Thomas and Andrew O’Neil; a sister, Linda Jennings of Copake; his nephew and niece, Richard Jennings of Hillsdale and Lorinda Alexander of Hudson.

Graveside services with military honors were held Wednesday December 23, 2015 at the Copake Cemetery.

Robert F. Dillon (1934 – 2015)

PHILMONT—Robert F. Dillon, 81, formerly of Hudson passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.

Born February 9, 1934 in Hudson, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Norton) Dillon.

He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Dillon was a correction officer for New York State Department of Corrections for 30 years at the Hudson Correctional Facility. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Hudson and a lifelong area resident.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, December 28, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 429 East Allen Street, Hudson. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery. Vincent Radice (1930 – 2015)

HILLSDALE—On December 22, 2015, Vincent Radice passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home.

He was born February 19, 1930 in Bayonne, NJ, to Vincent and Rosemanda Radice.

He served in the U.S. Army as a member of the Army Band.

As an accomplished alto saxophone player he later played alongside many of the famous jazz singers of the 1950s including Tony Bennett, Louis Armstrong, Peggy Lee and many others.

He was a newspaper reporter for the Jersey Journal throughout his 20s.

He received his master’s degree in education from NYU.

In 1963 he and his new wife, Rosemarie, moved to Columbia County to teach at the Ockawamick School. He taught English there until his retirement.

He and his wife were avid collectors of antiques and owned The Country Place antique shop in Hudson.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife and his sister, Barbara.

He is survived by: his son, Christian and his wife, Erika.

There are no calling hours.

Joanne Craft (1958 – 2015)

GHENT—Joanne Craft, 57, of Ghent passed away suddenly in her home December 22, 2015.

She was born July 17, 1958 in Hudson, the daughter of the late Walter and Josephine Stahowski of Philmont.

Mrs. Craft was a long-term employee of the Chatham Central School District and was a devoted hall monitor.

She loved being with the kids, and enjoyed eating lunch with her coworkers. Mrs. Craft always came home to her children with a story about her day at school, who she had to chase back to class or discussing favorite recipes with her coworkers or whose football team was going to win the next big game.

She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Josie, and her beloved chocolate lab, Abby.

Mrs. Craft is survived by: her husband, John; her two children, Audrey and Steven of Ghent; her sister, Theresa Nostrand (Rusty) of Newburgh, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She loved to cook, bake, garden, as well as take care of her animals.

Family received friends at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, Sunday, December 27 with memorial service in honor of her life beginning at 3 p.m. Contributions in Mrs. Craft’s name may be made to the Columbia-Greene Humane Society.

Cory Brian Northup (1986 – 2015)

GREENPORT—Cory Brian Northup, 29, of Greenport died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at his residence.

Born May 3, 1986 in Hudson, he was the son of Karen Lee Hamm of Greenport and Brian Keith Northup, Sr., and his wife, Danyel of Greenport.

Mr. Northup was a sterilization technician at Columbia Memorial Hospital. He loved fishing, video games and working on his car.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by: his brother, Brian Northup, Jr.; his sister, Nicole Northup; his grandparents, Mary Northup and Janette and Robert Mickle; a step-sister, Julia Kasmar; his girlfriend, Nikki Bridges and her son, Xavier Bridges; many uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his grandfather, Morland Northup.

Calling hours are Sunday, December 27, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home,110 Green Street, Hudson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 28, 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mellenville Union Cemetery.

Frank Olin (1929 – 2015)

VALATIE—Frank Olin passed peacefully after a long illness, December 24, 2015, surrounded and embraced by his family.

He had a long and eventful life and left his impact on almost everyone who knew him. Mr. Olin was strong, strong-willed, smart, creative and funny.

Born September 5, 1929, in the Bronx, he attended PS 86, DeWitt Clinton High and graduated from Spring Valley High School. He then took further studies at Baruch School of Business.

Mr. Olin had a long, successful career in real estate, owning and managing properties in Manhattan, the Bronx, and in Rockland, Putnam and Columbia counties.

He was the founder of Olin Real Estate in Kent. Mr. Olin was the chairman of the Board of Realtors of Putnam County, instituted the Multiple Listing Service and he was president, then commissioner of the Kent Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Olin volunteered his time as an EMT, at BOCES and at many other service organizations in Putnam County. “He was the very best grandfather on earth.”

Mr. Olin is survived by: Carmen, his loving wife of 59 years; his children, Deborah, Samuel and Leslie; his three grandchildren, Hannah, Jacob and David; his sisters, Bobbie Knopf and Louise Shaw and by his brother, Roger Olin. “We are thankful that he is finally at peace, and we miss him.”

Services were held Sunday, December 27, 2015, at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, after which there was a short graveside ceremony, and then a celebration of life at his home.

Dean P. Weed (1946 – 2015)

ALBANY—Dean Paul Weed, 69, of Greenport died Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at St. Peter’s Hospital.

He was born in Newburgh, April 16, 1946 to the late Harvey and Beatrice (VanLeuven) Weed.

Mr. Weed was an electrical technician for the New York State Department of Corrections in Coxsackie. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the VietNam War from 1966 to 1971.

Mr. Weed will be greatly missed by his loving family including: his beloved wife, Colleen M. (McKenna) Weed at home; two daughters, Deana Bennington of Glenville, WV, Shelly Weed of Virginia; two brothers, Chuck Weed of Newburgh and Sammy Weed of Pine Bush; grandchildren, Kimberly, Christy, Tiffany and Carl, Jr.; his father and mother-in-law, Joe and Maureen McKenna of Las Vegas, NV, and brother-in-law, J.P. McKenna of Mahwah, NJ. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Howard, and his infant brother, John.

Calling hours will be held Saturday January 2, 2016 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Herrick officiating. Burial with military honors will be Monday, January 4, 11 a.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
