Frederick M. Slater (1936 – 2016)

LIVINGSTON—Frederick M. “Two-Finger Fred” Slater, 79, of Gallatin died June 8, 2016 at the Livingston Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born August 26, 1936 in Leicester, VT, he was the son of the late Lyndon and Ada (Austin) Slater.

Prior to his retirement he had worked for the Taconic Orchards in Taghkanic for many years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include: his daughter, Wanda Anderson of Hudson; sister, Agnes “Aggie” Denis of Copake; one granddaughter, Andrea Foley of Germantown; two great-grandchildren, Adrianna and Colton, both of Germantown, and his dog, Pea Nut.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elaine Burghardt Slater, who died January 25, 2012, and several brothers and sisters.

A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 11, 2016 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Ancram Firehouse.

Wanda K. Van Deusen (1943 – 2016)

HUDSON—Wanda Karen Van Deusen, 73, of Claverack passed away June 5, 2016 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Born January 25, 1943 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Attala (Wohn) Spath.

She graduated from Chatham High School and attended cosmetology school in Albany. Mrs. Van Deusen operated her own beauty shop from her home for several years and was the co-owner of the Old Indian Trading Post in Claverack. Most recently she was employed by the Columbia Children’s Center which brought her great happiness. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and baking. She was known for her famous apple pies. She was a 53-year-lifetime-member of the of the A. B. Shaw Fire Company Auxiliary, Claverack Senior Citizens, Claverack Republican Club and Columbia Cruisers Car Club.

She is survived by: her loving husband of 53 years, James C. Van Deusen and her two daughters, Jodi (Stephen) Keyser and Karen (Richard) Franceschi, all of Claverack. She is also survived by the loves of her life, her grandsons, James Shook, Jr., Stephen (Beth) Keyser, Jeffrey (Kelsey) Keyser, Robert (Katrina) Keyser, Kevin Keyser(Lauren Scalera), Matthew (Kayla) Franceschi, Kyle Franceschi (Ashley Prochera); nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Anna, Julia, Jocelyn and Charleston Shook, Catherine and Ellie Keyser and Preston and Dominic Franceschi; her brother and sister-in-law, Delbe and Carol Spath of Wallkill; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Frieda Van Deusen of Claverack; along with four nieces, two nephews, several cousins and countless friends. She will be greatly missed by all.

Mrs. Van Deusen was predeceased by her parents and her great-grandchildren, Maddox and Kennedy Franceschi.

All are welcome to a memorial service Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the A. B. Shaw Firehouse, Route 23 in Claverack. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the A. B. Shaw Fire Company, Drawer A, Claverack 12513.
