Margot H. Curran (1925 -2016)
KINDERHOOK—Margot Hardart Curran died peacefully at her home Friday, September 16, 2016.
She was born in New York City to Augustin and Marie (Enright) Hardart, August 15, 1925.
She was the wife of John J. Curran, who died April 23, 1975. Mrs. Curran was predeceased by her sister, Marie Louise (Lulu) Hardart and brothers, Robert Hardart and Augustin Hardart, Jr.
She is survived by: her children, Susanna Schindler (Greg), Mary Curran (Erik Molbach), Thomas Curran (Marcia), Marcella Kelleher (Dan), Robert Curran (Jana), John Curran (Mara), Frank Curran (Carol), Patrick Curran (Judy), Margot Curran (Lloyd Ackert) and Edmund Curran (Nora); her 17 grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Nancy Hardart and close family friend, Wendy Carroll.
Mrs. Curran cast a wide net, touching many lives with her graciouskindness and generosity.
She was devoted to her family and her many friends, and supported numerous charities. She had a strong faith in God and was dedicated to her church. She encouraged and inspired her 10 children and showed them unconditional love.
She enjoyed bicycling the streets of Kinderhook and traveling to Canada, Mexico and Europe and within the U.S. Two of her favorite trips were bicycling along the Loire Valley and visiting the historic canal system in Wales. Her preferred local outing was a picnic at the riverside park in Stuyvesant.
The family thanks Mrs. Curran’s beloved caregivers and primary care physician for their extraordinary devotion.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Curran’s memory may be made to the Valatie Rescue Squad http://valatierescue.org/, the local food pantry http://foodpantry.kinderhookny.us/index.htm, and the Palmer Engine and Hose Fire Department of Kinderhook.
Following Mrs. Curran’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A memorial Mass will take place Monday, October 3, 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie.
Elizabeth Trow (1920 – 2016)
RHINEBECK—Elizabeth “Betty” Trow, 96, a longtime Red Hook resident, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Baptist Nursing Home.
Born January 8, 1920, in Bronxville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Katherine (Campbell) Kane, Sr.
She earned her degree in elementary education at SUNY New Paltz. She married Harold S. Trow, June 27, 1942 at St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook. He predeceased her.
For many years, she was a kindergarten teacher at Red Hook Central School. She was a member of the Red Hook Schools Alumni Association and the Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Trow was a longtime communicant of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook, also a member of the Red Hook VFW Post 7765 Ladies Auxiliary, and a former member of the Board of Directors at the Red Hook Public Library.
She is survived by: her children, John (Pam) Trow of Poughkeepsie, Peter (Kathy) Trow of Wake Forest, NC, and Thomas Trow of Hudson; a sister-in law, Judy Kane of Rhinebeck; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Lawrence Trow; a sister, Jane Zimmerman; and four brothers, Joseph, Harry, Kenneth and John Kane.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Attendees will then proceed to St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Barrytown.
