OBITUARIES: Pullen, Waite, Belterman

Lois Pullen (1937 – 2016)

ALBANY—Lois Pullen, 78, of River Street, Valatie died Thursday, September 22 at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born October 23, 1937 in East Meadow, she was the daughter of Edward and Myrtle (Sinclair) Brusso.

For many years, Mrs. Pullen worked as a nurse’s aide at Columbia Memorial Hospital. She loved knitting, crocheting, sewing and was an avid reader.

Mrs. Pullen was a member of the “Share the Wool” group, who made knitted shawls for donation to charity. She was an active member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Stockport, where she served her faith community in many capacities. Mrs. Pullen loved her family and the times she shared with them, loved being a grandmother and was very proud to call herself a great-grandmother.

Survivors include: her two daughters, Penny (Frank) Gutto and Amy (James) Conte; grandchildren, Michael D. Cesternino, Kimberly (Victor) VanAlstyne, James Conte, Jr., and Sarah (Jim) Cotsonas; great-granddaughter, Ava Cotsonas; sister, Jean (Bill) Stelling; several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Blossom Pullen, Virginia Brusso, Norine Phillips and all of her special friends at Valatie Woods.

She was predeceased by her husband, James W. Pullen and her brother, Edward Brusso.

Funeral services are Monday, September 26, 9 a.m. from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Kinderhook. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 25 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bates & Anderson Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to Valatie Rescue Squad or the Stockport Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Pullen’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at St. Peter’s Hospital for the exceptional care provided to their mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Wesley W. Waite (1964 – 2016)

COPAKE—Wesley Wayne Waite, 51, of Copake suddenly passed away September 21, 2016.

He was born in Sharon, CT, November 16, 1964 to John and Georgianna Waite.

He attended Taconic Hills High School and lived most of his life in Columbia County.

He spent many years working in the carpentry/construction field and he was also a certified plumber. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and known by his family as “Mr. Fix-It.”

He is survived by many family and friends who love him dearly, including: his children Christopher, Crystal and Phillip; his fiancée, April Slater; his father, John S. Waite, Jr.; his mother, Georgianna Waite; his brothers, John S. Waite, III, Loren “Beaver” Waite and his partner Zelesther Cay, Daryl Waite and his fiancée Rene Miles Callahan; and his nephew, Jonathan C. Waite. He is predeceased by his sister, Staci Ann “Tigger” Waite.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services at the Hillsdale Firehouse, 9387 State Route 22, Hillsdale, Monday, September 26, 2016 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, guests may bring a covered dish or refreshments to share and donations may be made at that time.

Robert J. Belterman (1946 – 2016)

HUDSON—Robert James Belterman, age 70, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Columbia Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born July 23, 1946 to John and Jeanette Belterman. He attended Ockawamick Central School and proudly served in the Vietnam War in the 2nd 11th Artillery. He was honorably discharged in November 1967. After being discharged Mr. Belterman worked in the funeral home business before starting his career with New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) at Brookwood Secure Center. He retired from there in 1997.

Mr. Belterman was a life-member of the Hudson Power Boat Association, a member of the Hudson Elks Lodge No. 787 and a member of the Stuyvesant Falls VFW. He loved boating, enjoying many years on the river just cruising or fishing. He loved to cook, being known for his baked macaroni and cheese. He also loved to spend quality time with his family and friends.

Mr. Belterman was predeceased by his parents and three sisters, Beverly Rivenburg Hartford, Eleanor Clark and Bonnie Conklin Misetich.

He is survived by: his beloved wife of 48 years, Pat (Hoffman) of Claverack; their daughter, Renee’ (William) Jackson of Acra; four sisters, Joyce (Preston) Schrader of Claverack, Barbara Scalera of Auburndale, FL, Jeanette (Robert) Mickle of Hudson and Claudia of Ghent; two brothers, John of Auburndale, FL and Richard of Ghent; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Calling hours will be Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home, 700 Town Hall Drive, Greenport. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jonathan Hodges officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson.
