David G. Roden (1941 – 2017)
ALBANY—David Gerald Roden, 75, of New Lebanon passed peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital, Saturday, January 28, 2017 with his family by his side.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Gerald and Mary Roden.
Mr. Roden met and married his loving wife, Sheryl in 1962 and together they shared almost 55 years of happiness together. She was always by his side.
He attended New Lebanon Central School and graduated in 1959. He then enlisted in the Air Force and served his country until 1964. After his service, he worked as a plumber and an electrician for more than 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the Lebanon Valley Protective Association where he was past president and fire chief. He had a passion for woodworking, he could always be found in his garage on the weekends making bowls and various wooden projects.
Mr. Roden is survived by: his loving wife, Sheryl Allen Roden; their two sons, Dwayne (Kelly) Roden of New Lebanon and Timothy (Donna) Roden of New Lebanon; six grandchildren, Brian, Daniel, Kevin, Ethan, Jason and Catherine; two sisters, Diane (William) Salvortore of Enfield, CT, and Marilyn (Melvin) Somes of Lanesborough, MA; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 3, 2017, 3 p.m. at the Hall and Higgins Funeral Home, 457 State Route 43, Stephentown. Friends and relatives may visit with the Roden family at the funeral home before the service, from 1 to 3 p.m. A reception will follow the service at the Lebanon Valley Protective Association Hall, 523 State Route 20, New Lebanon. Corlyn Barnard (1928 – 2017)
HUDSON—Corlyn “Corky” Barnard, 88, of Claverack died January 30, 2017 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born December 26, 1928 in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Jay C. and Mary “Molly” (Barber) Moore.
Mrs. Barnard and her late husband, Charles Barnard, who died December 14, 2008 owned and operated Barnard Florist until its closing in 2004 after 70 years of serving Columbia County. She was a member of the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack and the Society of American Florists.
Surviving are: her son, Fenton (Marilyn) of Kansas City, KS; daughters, Jaylyn (Kenneth) Schultz of Claverack and Nina (George) Dolan of Kinderhook; grandchildren, Gretchen B. Lerach, Molly B. Goodrich, Benjamin M. Barnard, Elliot A. Schultz, Jay F. Barnard and Taylor Barnard; great-grandchildren, Alexander T. Goodrich, Emilie I. Goodrich, Jacob Goodrich, Nora Schultz, Brooke O. Barnard, Mckenna R. Barnard and Charles M. Barnard.
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her sister, Timmy Mickle.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Dennis Keith Mazal (1981 – 2017)
VALATIE—Dennis Keith Mazal, 35, of Valatie died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at his home.
Born June 13, 1981 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Daniel Harrison and Joyce Catherine (Mazal) Hagadone.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 3:30 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with the Reverend Nick Becker officiating. Calling hours will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Joan E. Tabone (1934 – 2017)
NIVERVILLE—Joan E. Tabone, 82, of Niverville died Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her home.
Born October 19, 1934 in Albany, she was the daughter of the late John and Marie Amanda (Deschenes) Donovan.
Mrs. Tabone worked for Time-Warner in Albany for many years and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in Valatie.
She was the loving mother of her two children, Deborah Ingham of Niverville and James R. Tabone, III, of Latham; the beloved grandmother of Brandon, Justin and Rhiannon Spencer and Jessica and Shannon Ingham.
She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, James R. Tabone, Jr. and her siblings, Leo Deschenes and Yvonne Mickley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 3 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Valatie, with the Reverend George Fleming officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Church Faith Formation, 1025 Kinderhook Street, Valatie 12184.

Roland Drumm, Jr. (1943 – 2017)
MASCOUTAH, IL—Roland E. “Drummie” Drumm, Jr., 73, of Mascoutah, IL, born September 24, 1943 in Great Barrington, MA, died Monday, January 16, 2017 at Terrace on the Park.
He retired as a master sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 24 years of service. He also retired from civil service at Scott Air Force Base; was a U.S. Air Force veteran; an avid fisherman and a member of various bass clubs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland E. and Anna, (nee Rover), Drumm, Sr.
Surviving are: his wife, Linda L., (nee Linsky), Drumm, whom he married at Copake Falls, August 15, 1964; two sons, Damon (Vanessa) Drumm of Imperial, MO, and Chad (Theresa) Drumm of Mascoutah, IL; five grandchildren, Ashley (Clay) Ehlmann, Tiffany, Brittany, Brendan and Karri Drumm; a sister, Carol Lee (Jake) Miller of Copake; a niece and nephews.
In lieu of all other gifts memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
A private funeral service was held January 20, 2017 with Pastor Jack Spratte officiating. A graveside service followed with full military honors in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

Donald Hitchcock (1925 – 2017)
HUDSON—Donald E. “Jake” Hitchcock, 92, of Stone Mill Road, Claverack died Sunday, January 29, at Columbia Memorial Hospital.
Born January 24, 1925 in Troy, he was the son of Glen and Ruth (Hidley) Hitchcock.
Mr. Hitchcock worked at the Universal Match Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He served in the United States Marine Corps and earned numerous awards and commendations. He was a machine gun crewman for the 1st Marine Division, serving in the Solomon and Russell Islands, Okinawa, and China. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion Post 103 in Punta Gorda, FL, Hudson Fish and Game Club, and a long-time member of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Mr. Hitchcock enjoyed bowling and camping and fishing in the Adirondacks.
Survivors include: his beloved wife of 71 years, Catherine “Kate” (Thomas) Hitchcock; sister, Dorthea Ressler; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Services will be Wednesday February 1, 11 a.m. graveside in Cedar Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.

Lawrence Matarese (1951 – 2017)
RHINEBECK—Lawrence “Larry” Matarese, 65, of Red Hook passed Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Born March 3, 1951, in White Plains, he was the son of the late Pio and Lucy (DeMichele) Matarese.
He married Kathleen O’Neill, December 8, 2000 in Red Hook, and she survives at home.
For more than 20 years, Mr. Matarese worked as a respiratory therapist at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, and also as a private homecare therapist.
He also served for 24 years as a longtime volunteer and past captain of the Community Rescue Squad based in Copake.
In addition to his loving wife of 16 years, he is survived by: a daughter, Rachael O’Neill of Clifton Park; his two sisters, Lucy (Frank) Albano of Rhinebeck and Loretta McGrath of Mahopac; two nieces; three nephews; numerous cousins, friends and colleagues.
The family thanks the staff at Northern Dutchess Hospital and The Thompson House for the expert care and support.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2017, 11 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook. Inurnment will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Red Hook.
There will be no calling hours.
