Carl D. Schaummann, Jr. (1927 – 2017)
ST. JAMES, MO—Carl Dewald Schaummann, Jr., of Lebanon, MO, passed away June 6 at the Missouri Veterans Home at the age of 90.
He was born January 31, 1927 in Hudson to Carl Dewald, Sr., and Katherine (Stark) Schaummann.
Mr. Schaummann is survived by his wife, Ruby Lee Schaummann; his son, Carl David (Teri); daughters, Cathy Qualls (Dr. Randy) and Victoria Schaummann; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a brother, Boyd (Sylvia) Schaummann of Philmont; also several nieces, nephews and cousins of the local area.
Mr. Schaummann served in the United States Army, stationed in the Philippines and Korea. In 1965, he and his family moved to Iberia, MO, where he worked at Fort Leonard Hood until he retired.
A funeral with full military honors was held June 10 at Mount Rose Memorial Park.
Timothy Coon (1968 – 2017)
ELIZAVILLE—Timothy J. Coon, 48, of Elizaville passed away Saturday, June 24, 2017 at his home.
Born December 31, 1968, in Rhinebeck, he was the son of James R. (Mary) Coon of Red Hook and Christine Daley (Lou) Lorenz of Kyles Ford, TN.
A longtime self-employed property manager and salesman, Mr. Coon worked throughout the Hudson Valley. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed fishing, kayaking and especially snowmobiling. He was also a car enthusiast.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Coon is survived by: his siblings, C. Aubrey Coon of Elizaville, James E. Coon of Red Hook and Allix Coon of Red Hook; his partner, Audrey Unson of Elizaville; his faithful dog, Dony and countless friends and extended family.
Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes, 7461 South Broadway, Red Hook, Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be held Friday, June 30, 2017, 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Red Hook.

John C. Sullivan (1925 – 2016)
HUDSON—John C. “Jack” Sullivan, 91, originally of Hudson and, more recently of Claverack, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Columbia Memorial Hospital.

Milyn Elliott Kukon (1960 – 2017)
GERMANTOWN—Milyn Elliott Kukon, 57, passed away June 26, 2017.
She was born March 31, 1960 in Poughkeepsie to the late Lynn E. Buchanan and the late Michael L. Palazzo (Shirley).
Survivors include: her loving children, John (Jennifer) Kukon, Justin (Brittani) Kukon and Jordon Kukon; three precious grandchildren, Brandon, Anna and Nora; a brother, Dennis Palazzo; sister, Sandra (Mark) Redmond; seven nieces and nephews and many many friends.
Ms. Kukon spent the majority of her life in Germantown and was an integral part of the family farm, Kukon Brothers, LLC. She was also employed by Omega Institute for many years.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, June 28, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown.
Services will be Thursday, June 29, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial following in the Viewmont Rural Cemetery.

Lillian “Pete” Campbell (1929 – 2017)
ALBANY—Lillian “Pete” Campbell, 88, of Craryville passed away Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Albany Medical Center after a very brief illness.
She was born June 14, 1929 in Chatham, the daughter of Everett and Frances (Stupplebeen) Shadic, Sr.
She was a graduate of the Roeliff Jansen High School.
In 1949 she played in the Women’s Professional Baseball League on the traveling team for the Springfield Sallies. On November 5, 1988, she became a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.
Mrs. Campbell drove the school bus for Taconic Hills for 17 years. She was a member, and past president, of the Columbia County Ladies Auxiliary, Rip Van Winkle Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Cadby Shutts Post Auxiliary 7752 and Craryville Fire Auxiliary. She was a member of the Craryville United Methodist Church where she was financial secretary for more than 40 years, and treasurer of the North Copake Cemetery Association for many years. She worked for Carroll Rheinstrom for 28 years. She loved sports and played softball until she was 75. She also played basketball and bowled. Mrs. Campbell coached her sons in little league baseball and her daughters in softball.
On January 29, 1950, she married Clifford H. Campbell, Sr. She assisted him on the Campbell Brothers Dairy Farm in Craryville for many years. She also did volunteer work at Taconic Hills School and ran the Campbell Hills Golf Driving Range.
Survivors include: her children, Carolyn Stang of Mount Pleasant, SC, Clifford H. Campbell, Jr., of New Paltz, Carl Campbell of Hillsdale, Cheri Koetzner of Pattersonville, Craig Campbell of Craryville and Christa Proper of Ancram; beloved grandchildren, Heidi, Seth, Adam, Lindsey, Sara, Sean, Kelsey, Dylan, Bree, Christopher, Megan, Peter, Matthew and Evan; cherished great-grandchildren, Fletcher, Cole, Parker, Caroline, Christopher, Grant, Madeline Lillian, Cooper, Conner, Annabelle and Charlene Lillian; her sisters, Gladys Jensen of Philmont and Joyce MacDonald of Columbiaville.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Campbell, Sr.; a daughter, Charlene Bunce; a grandson, Brent Stang; three brothers, Harold Shadic, Everett Shadic and George Shadic; three sisters, Helen Coons, Alice Edgebert and Vivian Shadic.
Calling hours will be celebrated Thursday, June 29, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Craryville United Methodist Church, 1775 State Route 23, Craryville.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30, 2017, 10 a.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 State Route 22, Copake with the Reverend Bonnie Synder officiating.
Burial will follow in Niver Cemetery in Craryville.

Christopher J. Cole (1993 – 2017)
KINDERHOOK—On Sunday, June 25, 2017 the world lost a bright light and positive soul with the passing of Christopher James Cole, age 23, of Kinderhook. His wonderful smile used to light up the room and his Grandma Liz’s heart, and his whole body laugh would bring tremendous joy to his mother and his grandmother.
He was born December 26, 1993 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy, to Heather and Christopher Cole. He graduated from Ichabod Crane High School, where he played football, and attended Hudson Valley Community College.
Mr. Cole was employed as a technology cable installer, most recently for CRC Cabling in Rensselaer. He enjoyed his work and more so, his employers, Greg and Steve, whom he held in the highest regard.
Mr. Cole loved fishing and his trucks, but his passion was his dirt biking. He raced, watched and attended races, rode for pleasure and had two-cycle fuel running through his veins.
He loved his family very much and is survived by: his mother, Heather Cole (Mike); his father, Chris Cole; his brother, Zackery Cole; sister, Madison Cole; paternal grandparents, Elizabeth (Greene) and Harry Alecksynas; maternal grandparents, Sandy and Peter Haemmerlein; uncles, Jeff Cole and Philip Haemmerlein (Beth); aunt, Sara Haemmerlein (Scott) and many cousins.
He is preceded in death by: his grandfather, James Cole. “We all loved him with every bit of our hearts and will miss him terribly.”
There will be a viewing and a celebration of his life (no whining or sniveling), Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie, with calling hours from 4 to 7pm. The funeral service will be private for the family with the Reverend Geoffrey Brown of the Ghent Bible Baptist Church, presiding. Gerald R. VanAlphen (1947 – 2017)
PHILMONT—Gerald R. VanAlphen, 69, of Philmont passed away peacefully at home June 22, 2017.
He was born July 1, 1947, the son of William and Beulah VanAlphen.
He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War. He worked as a custom upholster for L&B.
He is survived by: his wife, Grace; his daughter, Geraldine Kresser; his son, Gary (Lisa) VanAlphen; his two grandchildren, Richard, Jr. and Kaitlin Jostlin; his brothers, Donald, Larry, Billy, Herbie; his sisters, Jennifer and Evie VanAlphen and Joannie Miller; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
He was predeceased by his sister, Diana VanAlphen.

Harold Hallenbeck (1921 – 2017)
PHILMONT—Harold F. Hallenbeck, 95, passed away June 23, 2017 at Pine Haven Nursing Home.
He was born October 20, 1921 in Hudson, to Howard and Edna (Decker) Hallenbeck.
A graduate of the Class of 1939, St. Mary’s Academy, Mr. Hallenbeck served as a radio mechanic in the Air Transport Command Division of the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in the China-Burma-India Theater.
Mr. Hallenbeck worked for 37 years for the State of New York, Department of Mental Hygiene in Albany, before retiring in 1983. He was an avid Yankees baseball fan, and a member of the Flying Dutchmen club and softball team.
Mr. Hallenbeck is survived by: his loving wife of 39 years, Bertha Wallace Hallenbeck; his daughter, Barbara L. Hallenbeck; his son, James Hallenbeck (Barbara Knox), all of Colorado Springs; brother, John Hallenbeck (Diane) of Stuyvesant; stepchildren, Carol French (Jeffrey) of Philmont, and Charles S. Wallace, Jr., (Sharon) of Red Hook; granddaughter, Carey Paquette (Martin Kindl); step-grandchildren Kara French, Darrin French and Matt Wallace (Sue); step-great-grandchildren, Hunter and Tessa; several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hallenbeck was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Padalaskie) Hallenbeck; their daughter, Mary Paquette; his sisters, Margaret Hallenbeck and Rose Kovatch; brothers, Howard, Richard, James and Edward.
Visiting hours will be Wednesday, June 28 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Bates & Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, June 29, 10 a.m. from St. Mary’s Church, Hudson. Committal prayers will follow in Cedar Park Cemetery, Hudson.
Edward P. Yasinski (1927 – 2017)
HUDSON—Edward Paul Yasinski, age 89, passed away peacefully at his home June 24, 2017. His loving wife of many years, Rita Theresa (Sutty) preceded him in death.
He was born July 18, 1927 in Stottville, to Marian and Walter Yasinski, who were Polish immigrants. He was the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1945, where he was a standout athlete in both football and baseball, and served as team captain each year.
After his graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Navy.
His athletic talent led him to a pitching career with the Brooklyn Dodgers organization from 1947 to 1955. When he returned to make his home in Hudson, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier, a job he held until his retirement. His dedication to the game of baseball continued, and he umpired games throughout Columbia County for many years. His hobbies included fishing, carpentry and following his beloved Mets and Giants.
Mr. Yasinski was a humble, gentle man, whose kindness, quick wit, and ability to converse with everyone, endeared him to all who knew him.
He is survived: by his daughter, Susan Yasinski of Portland, Oregon; sister-in-law, Eleanor Sutty; nieces and nephews, William Yasinski (Ann), Patricia Robertson (Joe), Michele Pierro, Louis Pierro (Paula), and several great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Casmir (Bill), John and Frank Yasinski and sisters, Mary Haggerty, Geneva Pierro and Stella Bogarski.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services for family and friends will be held Friday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at Cedar Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with Bates and Anderson Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Salvatore Cesternino (1939 – 2017)
GHENT—Salvatore Cesternino, 78, of Ghent died Sunday, June 25 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
Born April 2, 1939 in Hudson, he was the son of Frank and Giovanna (Griffo) Cesternino.
Also known as “Sal” or “Sonny,” Mr. Cesternino was a retired construction worker with the Laborer’s Union Local 1000, Poughkeepsie. He was a life member with more than 60 years of service at J.W. Hoystradt #8 Hose & Chemical Co. and the West Ghent Fire Company, where he was past chief. Mr. Cesternino was devoted to his family and his generosity was beyond measure. He loved to socialize and was a friend to everyone he met. A friend of his was a friend for life.
Mr. Cesternino is survived by: his sons, Michael and James Cesternino; daughter, Anna Allen; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Joseph Cesternino; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Ida and several siblings.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 29, 1 p.m. at the Bates & Anderson Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. Visitation hours at the funeral home are Wednesday, June 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be in West Ghent Cemetery.
