Herman Gumprecht (1922 – 2017)
MARTINDALE—Herman Gumprecht, age 95, of Martindale died October 15, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born September 23, 1922, he was the son of the late Carl and Ruth Gumprecht.
He graduated from Roeliff Jansen Central School, where he excelled in football and baseball.
He married Kathryn Simmons August 14, 1943. He worked at Lorbrook Corp until he retired in 1987.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: a daughter, Kathy (Joseph) Snyder of Cicero; a son, Gary (Deborah) Gumprecht of Ghent; grandson, David Snyder of Bridgeport; granddaughters, Dawn Armstrong of Cicero and Amanda Earl of Claverack; step-grandchildren, Edward Upright of Philmont and Kelly Upright of Rhinebeck; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Robert D. Jennings (1971 – 2017)
COLUMBIAVILLE—Robert D. Jennings, 45, of Stuyvesant died Sunday, October 15, 2017.
Born November 16, 1971 in Hudson, he was the son of David A. Jennings of Lagrange, Kentucky and Debra Rifley (Kirker) of Columbiaville.
Mr. Jennings was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and trapping. His pride and joy was teaching his daughters and many others the way of the trade. He was a lineman for National Grid for the past 17 years. He was an extremely kind man with a huge heart. He could make anyone laugh with his witty sense of humor.
Besides his parents, he leaves behind the loves of his life, his wife of 21 years, Dawn (Gentner) and his two children, Samantha and Elizabeth, all of Stuyvesant. He also leaves behind his National Grid family and many others to whom he was like a dad.
He is also survived by: his two sisters, Julie Provenzano of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Laura Slobodiak of Grafenwohr, Germany; his maternal grandmother, Norma Kirker of Stottville; his father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Roberta Gentner of Wynantskill; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Robert and Delores Jennings and his maternal grandfather, Donald Kirker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 20 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Joseph in Stottville, with the Reverend George Fleming officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be Thursday, October 19 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Columbia County Trappers Association, 399 Leggett Road, Ghent 12075.
Margaret Wahlers (1931 – 2017)
GHENT—Margaret Wahlers, 85, of Stottville died Sunday, October 15 at Whittier Skilled Nursing Center.
Born December 25, 1931 in Hudson, she was the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Chorka) Novak.
Ms. Wahlers was a secretary for many years at L&B Products in Hudson. She loved knitting, fishing and the New York Yankees.
She is survived by: her son, Duane (Judy) Wahlers; daughter, Ramona Wahlers; daughter-in-law, Barbara Wahlers; grandchildren, Duane, Jr., Raymond, Shannon, Jeremy, Michelle and Heather, along with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Wahlers was predeceased by her son, Stewart Wahlers and daughter, Karla Wahlers.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, October 18, 11:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Joseph, Stottville Parish. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson.
Elizabeth S. Smith (1931 – 2017)
STUYVESANT—Elizabeth “Betty” G. (Stone) Smith, 86, died of Alzheimer’s at her residence surrounded by her loving family Friday, October 13, 2017.
She went “Home” to be with her beloved husband, Blair C. Smith. She was lost without him.
She was born in Albany, August 28, 1931 and grew up in Clinton Heights, Rensselaer. She was the daughter of the late George Stone and Mary Powers Stone. She worked at Traveler’s Insurance after graduating from the Old Columbia High School. The family apple farm (Smith Farm) was her life’s work. She spent her entire life taking care of those around her. She had a heart of gold and baked one mean apple pie. People came by from all over just for a slice. Mrs. Smith loved to garden, to take care of her granddaughters, to crochet and to go to Saratoga to bet on the ponies. She loved her church and her kitties.
The family expresses deep appreciation to Joy and Ruth from Interim. They loved her like she was their own mother and cared for her as such. Her children were there for her throughout this journey. There is a special place in Heaven for her son, David.
She was the wife of the late Blair C. Smith, whom she married on December 1, 1951; mother of Marjorie (Smith) Sovey (Don), Gerald P. Smith and David J. Smith; grandmother of Julia K. Sovey and Paige Elizabeth Sovey; sister of George Stone (Mollie) and Mary Lou Christman (Lowell). She is survived by: special nieces, Deborah Christman Sheldon, Jean Stone Horner and a special nephews, George Stone and John Stone; and a host of friends and relatives too numerous to mention.
The funeral was conducted Tuesday, October 17 at Sacred Heart Church, Castleton, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial was offered. Interment after the funeral mass was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of NE NY, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany 12205.
