Douglas A. Hatch (1930 – 2017)
AU SABLE FORKS—Douglas Allen Hatch, age 86, passed away at home August 23, 2017.
He was born in Canaan, October 25, 1930. He enlisted in the Navy in 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1951 with the rank of radioman second class.
He was married August 23, 1953 to Doris “Peggy” Witthoft. He graduated from UVM in 1958 with a BS in business administration.
He retired in 1991 from Chatham Central School where he served as business manager.
Mr. Hatch was a life-member of the American Legion in Au Sable Forks, a member of the VFW in Boiling Spring Lakes, NC and a member of Unity Lodge No. 9 F &M, Chatham.
He is survived by: Peggy, wife of 64 years; daughter, Joyce of Richmond, VA; son, Charles of Hallandale, FL; four grandchildren; brother, Norman and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Joanne in 2015.
A memorial service will be held at Christ Our Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Park Row, Chatham, October 14, 2017, 2 p.m. followed by the burial in Flat Brook Cemetery, Canaan.
Arrangements are entrusted to Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Avenue, Chatham.
Robert M. Ryan (1948 – 2017)
KINDERHOOK—Robert M. “Bobby” Ryan, 69, of Kinderhook died Sunday, September 24, 2017 at his home.
He was born August 31, 1948 in Brooklyn, the son of the late James H. and Anna M. (Matejick) Ryan.
He served two tours with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of spec 5 and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his meritorious service.
Mr. Ryan was employed by Kinderhook Toyota as a detailer for a time. He was an avid vegetable gardener and a master tomato grower. He was also an avid outdoorsman and the best brother ever.
He is survived by: his brother, James A. Ryan; several cousins, including Lorraine Ryan and Lori Flick and his great friend, Bob Baumeister of Kinderhook.
Services with full military honors were held in Saratoga National Cemetery, September 26.
The family thanks the Valatie Rescue Squad for the care and attention during Mr. Ryan’s illness. Arrangements are with the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie.
