WE RECEIVED a couple of comments on my failure to catch a typographical error in a headline in last week’s issue. My error led to publication of a word used as an anti-Semitic slur. A correction and apology appear on Page 2.
What’s not said on Page 2 is that due to the error we’ve added one more set of eyes to check last minute changes. This won’t eliminate typos. They’re a fact of life in this business. But I hope the changes will reduce all errors and avoid offensive ones, unintentional though they may be.
I appreciate the thoughtful tone of the comments we did receive, and for all the readers who noticed the error but saw it as a moment of carelessness, thank you for your faith in our newspaper.
