Columbia County Memorial Day 2018

In Hudson, Brian McSween (l) and Joseph Zachman line up for the color guard of the parade. Robert Laporta was the guest speaker at the ceremony. He is a combat veteran who served with the First Air Cavalry Division Airmobile from 1968-1969. He spoke a little bit about the history of Memorial Day in the United States, then he reminded the gathering of the year 1968; it was the year with the highest casualty count of the war, when 2,400 soldiers were killed in the month of May alone. He concluded with a quote by Joanie Morgado: “Our fallen soldiers are waving to us through windswept flags. Take a moment to wave back.” Photo by David Lee
