Roger M. Marvin (1938 – 2019)
ORLANDO, FL—Roger Myron Marvin passed away March 1, 2019 in Orlando, FL, following a brief illness.
He was born in Hudson to Myron and Mary Marvin April 27, 1938. Following his graduation from St. Mary’s Academy in 1955, he joined the U.S. Navy with four of his fellow graduates. In 1962, Mr. Marvin joined the New York State Police and served for 25 years.
In his retirement, he enjoyed driving for the Healthcare Consortium and volunteering at fundraisers for St. Mary’s Church, where he was a lifelong communicant. Mr. Marvin was a life-member of the Roger’s Hose Fire Company and Hudson Elks Lodge 787. He was an avid reader, traveler and anonymous Good Samaritan who enjoyed regular jaunts to casinos with his wife, Jo Ann.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Marvin was predeceased by his sister, Mary Anne Russell. He is survived by: his wife of 55 years, JoAnn (Bruno) Marvin; children, Lisa (Brad) Chew, Susan (Eric) Helsley, Roger T. (Tricia) Marvin and Karen (Karl) Thompson; grandchildren, Morgan and Patrick Chew, Anna, Matthew and Caroline Helsley, Sydney and Bradley Marvin, and Emily and Mari Thompson; his brother, Walter Marvin; his dear friends of more than 60 years, Tom and Vera Colwell; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation hours at the Bates & Anderson-Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson are Friday March 8, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 9, 10 a.m. from Holy Trinity / St. Mary’s Parish in Hudson. Interment will be in Cedar Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Marvin’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Norma M. Kirker (1932 – 2019)
HUDSON—Norma M. Minten Kirker joined the good Lord; her beloved husband, Donald J. Kirker; grandson, Robert D. Jennings and her parents, Harold and Harriet Minten in everlasting peace, Sunday, March 3, 2019.
She was born in Hudson June 29, 1932.
After graduating from Hudson High School in 1950, she married the love of her life and embarked on an incredible journey of raising eight children together. She worked as an office assistant for the late Roswell D. Shaw, MD, for a short time, then spent 20 years in her favorite “job” as a full-time stay-at-home mom. Upon graduation of her last child from high school, Mrs. Kirker returned to Columbia-Greene Community College to major in accounting and continued working as company CFO for several local businesses until her retirement.
She was an amazingly caring person who loved her family, friends and extended family unconditionally, and lived her life with a passion for the causes that interested her in the community she loved all her life. She was elected Stockport Town councilperson in 1989, and served in that capacity for 24 years. During her child-rearing years, Mrs. Kirker extended her deep love and guidance for children by volunteering as a Cub Scout leader, Girls softball league coach, and presented the first Columbia County group of First Class Girl Scouts after 10 years of leadership. Her avid and infectious adoration of books, which she blessed each of her children with also, made her a devoted member of the Friends of Hudson Library for many years, and she spent decades working tirelessly as a library volunteer until her death. She supported her hometown with community service for more than 20 years; worked dozens of years for the Hudson School District Board of Elections, and served as a lector and Eucharistic minister for the Church of St. Joseph in Stottville.
Surviving Mrs. Kirker are: all of her very grateful eight children, Debra (Dave) Riffley of Columbiaville, Richard (Sharon) Kirker of Rhinebeck, Mary (Michael) Fay of Schuylerville, Kathi (Michael) Davi of Cape Coral, FL, Paul (Jane) Kirker of Poughkeepsie, Teresa (David) Stockley of Columbiaville, Peter Kirker of Stottville, and Michael (Marlene) Kirker of Katy, TX; her “spare” daughters, Barbara (Ken) Bovat of Claverack and Lori (Michael) Stevens of Hudson; 13 grandchildren, Julie Provenzano, Laura Slobodiak, Chris and Karen Kirker, Ariana and Shannon Fay, Alex and Philip Keyser, Stephanie Farrar, Kasie Yeager, Bryan Stockley and Mariah and Michaela Kirker, along with 11 great-grandchildren. Also her brother-in-law, Walter (Pat) Novak of Schenectady; sister-in-law, Carolyn Stark of Ghent; many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 7, 10 a.m. from the Church of St. Joseph, Stottville Parish. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Constance B. Mrowzinski (1929 – 2019)
RHINEBECK—Constance B. Mrowzinski, 89, of Red Hook, a former longtime Elizaville resident, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at The Thompson House.
Born September 21, 1929, in Flushing, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Aidala) Vuozzo.
She married Joseph Mrowzinski October 30, 1949 in Flushing. He predeceased her in 1994.
For 25 years, Mrs. Mrowzinski worked as the chief court clerk for Columbia County in Hudson. She served both County Courts and the Supreme Court, retiring in 1995.
Active throughout her life, she served for eight years as a councilwoman on the Gallatin Town Board, she was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years, and served on the boards of the Adult Learning Institute at Columbia-Greene Community College, and also the Lifetime Learning Institute at Bard College. She was a member of the Elizaville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary since 1962, was a member and seven-year president of the Southern Tier Seniors, and a member of the Red Hook Seniors.
Mrs. Mrowzinski was a longtime communicant of St. Christopher’s Church in Red Hook and active in their Ladies Guild.
She is survived by: her children, Irene Jimenez of Cairo, Veronica Ganley of Brewster and Donald (Mary) Mrowzinski of Hilliard, OH; her grandchildren, Jenna Jimenez, John Jimenez, David Mrowzinski and Sara Tafone; a sister, Joan Michelini of Monroe Township, NJ; her sister-in-law, Marilyn Vuozzo of Shelton, CT; along with extended family and countless friends.
In addition to her husband, a brother, Anthony Vuozzo predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, March 7, 2019, 11 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Church, Red Hook. Interment will be private at the Elizaville Methodist Cemetery, Elizaville.

Robert J. Waters (1954 – 2019)
NASSAU—Robert “Bobby” J. Waters, 64, of Nassau passed away at home March 1, 2019 following a battle with lung cancer.
He was born in Albany, October 11, 1954 to the late Edward S. and Sarah F. (Wheeler).
Originally from West Lebanon, he graduated from New Lebanon Central Schools and Hudson Valley Community College with an associate’s degree in accounting.
Never actually leaving town, he worked as a stocker and counter person, and eventually bookkeeper for Hicks Lumber Company for 23 years, then as an office worker for Larabee Fuel Company for 16 years. He was working for VRS Sales, LTD (Shakerley Fire Trucks) in Clifton Park when diagnosed with lung cancer in September 2017.
Mr. Waters had been in the Lebanon Valley Protective Association, Inc. since February 1973, and held the offices of lieutenant, secretary, vice president, and was the treasurer since 1990. He was also a member of the Columbia County Volunteer Firefighters Association. His pastimes included working at Lebanon Valley Speedway for several years doing everything except starter and announcer. He loved to watch NASCAR races, Yankees baseball, and was a member of the North East Stock Car Old Timers (NESCOT).
He is survived by: his wife, Lisa Ann (Higgins) whom he married April 18, 2014; his daughter, Kristine (David) Moxon; four granddaughters, Kali, Madeline, Abigail and Emily, all of Nassau; a brother, Garry (Bonnie) Waters of East Chatham; a sister, Shari (Gary) Stottler of Honeyoe Falls; an uncle, Russell Wheeler; two nephews and many cousins.
Mr. Waters will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at the Lebanon Valley Speedway Clubhouse March 24 at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Lebanon Valley Protective Association, Inc., P.O. Box 162, New Lebanon 12125 or to the Northeast Pyr Rescue, P.O. Box 704, Lee, MA 01238.
