William T. Snyder (1928 – 2019)
KINDERHOOK—William T. Snyder, 90, of Kinderhook died Monday, July 1, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born October 27, 1928 in Hudson, he was the son of the late Roland Chauncy and Clara (Knickerbocker) Snyder.
Mr. Snyder served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a charter member of the Kinderhook Sportsmen’s Club and a member of the former Clapp/Novak American Legion Post in Kinderhook. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and New York Yankees fan.
He is survived by: four children, Mary Cook and William J. “Brud” Snyder (Jeanette), all of Kinderhook; Barbara Snyder and Peggy Geyer (Rick), both of Lake Ridge, VA; three grandchildren, Sarah and Jamie Cook and Johnathan Snyder; and his cat, Sweetie.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Anne (McComb) Snyder and a brother, Edson Snyder.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2019, 2 p.m. at the Kinderhook Reformed Church, Route 9, Kinderhook with the Reverend Rudy Visser officiating. Calling hours will be held Friday, July 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Raymond E Bond Funeral Home, 1015 Kinderhook Street, Valatie. Burial will follow in Kinderhook Cemetery. Dean E. VanderSchaaff (1940 – 2019)
CATSKILL—Dean Everett VanderSchaaff, 78, of Hudson passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at The Pines of Catskill.
He grew up in Clymer, the son of Frederick and Marguerite VanderSchaaff. He attended Alfred University and enjoyed a career as a furniture engineer and designer.
He married Sandra VanderSchaaff in 1963 and they enjoyed more than 50 years together. Mr. VanderSchaaff was a dedicated Army veteran who was stationed in the Dominican Republic. He served his country from 1963 to 1966.
He was a member of the Jaycees, an avid fisherman, loved to read, and was a dedicated member of his church.
Mr. VanderSchaaff is survived by: his son, Dennis (Trixie) VanderSchaaff; his grandson, Ethan VanderSchaaff; his sisters, Madalene Edwards and Dawn (Bob) Dopler and five nieces.
Visitation will be from Tuesday, July 9, 4 to 6 p.m. at the Bates and Anderson – Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home, 110 Green Street, Hudson. A funeral service will take place at 6 p.m.

Palmer J. Westover (1924 – 2019)
PHILMONT—Palmer Jerome Westover, 95, of Ghent passed away at Pine Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, July 2, 2019.
Born in Chatham, he was the son of Marion Palmer Loomis and George Jerome Westover.
Through the years, Mr. Westover had his own plumbing and heating business, worked for GLF (now Agway), drove a school bus for Chatham Central School District, worked at Chatham Bowl maintaining the machines and retired from Sonoco, formerly Crellin Plastics, in 1984.
For him, a stranger was just someone he hadn’t visited with yet. He always had a story to tell about plowing, haying, hitching horses, milking cows, tractor pulls, one-room schoolhouses, the automobiles he owned starting in the late 1930s, tales of Austerlitz and Spencertown, working in Hartford, CT, during World War II, attending the World’s Fair in 1939, camping the Adirondacks and Eastern Canada with his children, and the places he had lived.
His wide variety of residences include a camp in Maine, Calabash, North Carolina and Albuquerque, New Mexico. His friends in each of these areas know all about his experiences in the other places he’d lived.
Mr. Westover was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Florence “Flossie” Smith Westover; his sister, Lois Ackerman; a son, Michael P. Westover; a daughter-in-law, Mary MacPherson Westover and a son-in-law, Richard Tokarski.
His wife called him “Grampy,” but that’s another story.
Surviving him are: his sons, Gary (Patricia), Jeffry (Gennifer); daughter, Jeanne; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Tunis; his beloved grandchildren, Melissa Crysler (Keith), Greg, Daniel and Misha Westover; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A visitation will be held at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham, Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to noon followed by a graveside service at the Chatham Rural Cemetery. After the service, friends and family are invited back to the Chatham firehouse.
