Arthur T. Johnson (1930 – 2020)
ARGYLE—Arthur Thomas Johnson, 89, passed away January 29, 2020 at his home.
Born June 2, 1930 in Niverville, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Belcher) Johnson.
He graduated in 1947 from Martin H. Glynn High School in Valatie. In 1951, he joined the United States Army and served till 1953 in the 82nd Airborne, Fort Benning, Georgia.
On June 5, 1955, Mr. Johnson married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty) Berlin at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stuyvesant. Pastor Clarence Wollslager officiated.
“Art” enjoyed automobile restoration, his pet dogs and cats, and was a huge NASCAR fan. He loved to travel with his wife, and had visited all 50 states.
He was a member of the John W. McConnell American Legion Post 47 for more than 50+ years. In 1973 to 1974, he was Columbia County commander and also Columbia County Americanism chairman.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by: his sisters, Grace, Peg (Max) Cross, Vivian, (Jake) Novak and his brother, Grant (Dolly) Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory are: his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth; his children, Thomas Johnson of Hartford, Tamara (Herbert) Griffen of Troy; his brother, Richard Johnson of Hampden, MA; and several nieces. At Mr. Johnson’s request there will be no calling hours.
A service with full military honors was conducted February 3, 2020 at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.

William H. Meyers (1929 – 2020)
EAST CHATHAM—William “Bill” H. Meyers of East Chatham passed away peacefully at home February 16, 2020 at the age of 90.
He was born December 7, 1929 in White Plains and attended Elmsford schools. He served in the USAF from 1951 to 1955, stationed in Okinawa during the Korean Conflict.
He married his beloved wife Margaret “Peggy” in 1955 and they moved to East Chatham in 1969. He retired after 30 years with the U.S. Postal service in 1985 and in retirement was employed by Delson’s department store and French Preiter Funeral Home in Chatham.
“Helmie” was an enthusiastic model train collector and spent many hours building impressive train displays and attending train shows. He was an avid reader, flower gardener, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Bessie (Sherwood) and William Meyer. He is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Peggy; sons, Bruce (Sarah) of Ghent, Jay (Cindy) of Old Chatham; daughter, Lori (Nick) Bervy of East Chatham; grandkids, Matthew, Lindsay, Christopher, Kevin, Bethany (Kal) Lezak and Elizabeth; two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
