HUDSON – Since the beginning of April, Perfect Ten Afterschool Program’s team of three has made more than 1,500 cloth face masks and distributed them for free across the county. The sewing operation continues to meet the ongoing demand.
“We started making masks for the girls and their families, but within days we were fielding requests from other organizations as well as hundreds of individuals,” said Perfect Ten Director Tina Dipper in a press release. From the start, we wanted to offer them free of charge because we are committed to helping the Hudson community.
Whitney Wilkins, the long-term Perfect Ten Community program coordinator, and skilled sewer, opened her Warren Street shop to scale up the mask-making operation. With Ms. Dipper and Perfect Ten board member Africia Heiderhoff, the team has been working seven days a week to fill the demand.
Perfect Ten has provided masks for Hudson city employees, teachers, bus drivers and janitors at Hudson City School District, and the Greenport Rescue Squad. In addition, Perfect Ten has supplied masks to Columbia County Sanctuary Movement for distribution to client families, the county jail, and Solaris at Camphill Hudson.
Churchtown Dairy and Talbott & Arding, long-time supporters of Perfect Ten, have distributed these masks to their customers and staff. Hundreds more masks have been given to individuals in the community for friends and family, all at no charge.
Perfect Ten leadership is committed to continue sewing as long as supplies last.
“The orders continue to pour in and we are so grateful for the generosity of all those who have donated to us in this effort,” said Ms. Dipper. Ms Wilkins added her gratitude to JoAnn’s and Quadrille Fabrics for donations of fabric. She also thanked “all our friends who have brought us fabric remnants from their own closets.”
