HUDSON—Columbia County officials continue to adhere to their earlier determination that summer camps should not open in 2020, though Governor Cuomo has given the go-ahead for summer camps to open beginning June 29.

“I don’t see how you can hold a summer camp while maintaining social distancing and other necessary safety measures related to the spread of the coronavirus. Because of that, the county holds to our original statement that summer camps remain closed this year. This decision was arrived at in consultation with the county Health Department,” Columbia County Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell said in the county-issued June 3 coronavirus update press release.

In a similar vein, Chairman Murell noted that as parents begin the return to work, child care is a critical need. “Child care services are considered an essential service under New York Forward (https://esd.ny.gov/guidance-executive-order-2026),” he said in the release.

Auto race tracks can open without fans

With Executive Order 202.36, auto race tracks in New York State were cleared as of June 3, to open their doors “pursuant to Department of Health guidance for such operation, and provided such auto racetrack allows only essential personnel or participants to be on site, and does not permit any visitor or spectator into the facility or on premise.”

The Executive Order extends until July 2.

Eat outside, stay six-feet apart

Also June 3, Governor Cuomo announced that outdoor dining at restaurants will be permitted in Phase 2 of the reopening process. Outdoor tables must be spaced six-feet apart, all staff must wear face coverings and customers must also wear face coverings when not seated.
