AUSTERLITZ—A Rensselaer County man was killed in a car crash on State Route 22 north of Osmer Road, September 6. State Police from the New Lebanon barracks investigated a fatal motor vehicle crash at 12:45 a.m. that date after a concerned motorist called Columbia County 911.
Troopers arrived, along with Austerlitz firefighters and the Chatham Rescue Squad at 11819 Route 22, where they found one vehicle off the road.
The operator, Kevin C. Jones, 30, of Troy had been driving south when for unknown reasons, his vehicle went off the west shoulder and crashed into a utility pole and multiple trees.
Mr. Jones was dead at the scene.
The cause of the crash is undetermined.
Columbia County Coroner Mike Blasl was also on scene.
NYSEG was called to replace the pole. Firefighters were back in service at 3:44 a.m.
State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested John E. Suchomel, 55, of Monroe for first degree sexual abuse, a class D felony, September 4.
Following a tip, an investigation determined Mr. Suchomel allegedly sexually abused a child under the age of 13 in the Village of Philmont.
He was arraigned in Village Court and sent to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond. He is next scheduled to appear before the court at a later date.
Jordan L. Brown, 22, of Ghent was charged with second degree criminal contempt, second degree obstructing governmental administration, fourth degree criminal mischief, third degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, speed not reasonable and prudent, unregistered motor vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, uninspected motor vehicle, August 30 at 9:48 a.m.
Deputy Jordan Brahm was at a location in the Village of Chatham investigating a domestic violence complaint. It is alleged that Mr. Brown violated an order of protection, and damaged property belonging to the protected party. During the investigation, Mr. Brown was seen driving up to and past the residence multiple times on an unregistered motorcycle, interfering with the investigation.
He was subsequently taken into custody and arraigned virtually by Justice James Borgia-Forster in Chatham Village Court. He was released on his own recognizance and directed to appear in the Village Court at a later date.
Sheriff’s Deputy Philipp Gomm was dispatched to a personal-injury auto accident at 443 Farm Road in Copake, August 23 at about 3:12 p.m.
Upon completion of the accident investigation, Deputy Gomm charged Jeffrey T. Baker, 64, of Copake with driving while intoxicated (DWI), a class U misdemeanor, and moving from lane unsafely, a traffic infraction. The Community Rescue Squad took Mr. Baker to Columbia Memorial Hospital for treatment of a back injury. He was issued tickets directing him to appear in Copake Court September 28 to answer the charges.
Sarah M. Gaylord, 40, of Austerlitz was charged with third degree assault by Deputy Timothy Gladwin, August 27 at 10:50 p.m. The arrest stems from a domestic violence incident that allegedly took place at 9:51 p.m. on the same date in Craryville.
Ms. Gaylord was arraigned in Claverack Court before Justice Michael Brandon. She was released on her own recognizance and directed to appear in Copake Court September 28 to answer the charge.
