Let’s have a panel discussion

Nearing completion, the ELP Ghent solar farm on Route 66 in Ghent near the airport, is owned and operated by East Light Partners Solar of Cambridge, MA. It consists of 10,725 panels covering approximately 14 acres and will generate 3.25 megawatts of ground mounted solar energy. According to the Solar Energies Industry Association, a single megawatt will provide power for approximately 190 homes. The construction is being done by Empire Valorize of New York City, a multi-disciplinary service company operating in the solar industry. Ghent Zoning Enforcement Officer Christopher Keefe said that the solar farm is one of the company’s community solar projects, with electricity shared by multiple residents and businesses. Subscribers to the Community Solar plan reserve a percentage of the utility credits, which are automatically applied to their bill each month. ELP’s website says that the credits are sold at a discount allowing customers to save 10% annually on electricity. ELP has four other projects in, Claverack, Livingston, Greenport and Kinderhook.
