Johnny M. Johnson (1947 – 2021)
LAKE CITY, FL—Johnny M. Johnson died March 22, 2021.
He was born August 17, 1947 in Tennille, GA, to Otis Peterson and Tressie M. Johnson. He was a former resident of Columbia County.
He attended DD Crawford Elementary School in Tennille, GA, and attended TJ Elder High School for two years. He completed high courses and graduated while in the U.S. Navy. He was a proud member of both the U.S. Navy and the Air Force Reserves for a number of years. Afterward, he received a BA degree from Florida Memorial College in Miami, FL, where he became a dedicated member of the Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was employed with the Dade County Police Department for several years.
Mr. Johnson’s beloved wife, Nettie M. Jackson preceded him in death, June 22, 2006.
He obeyed the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the Liberty City Church of Christ in Miami, FL. He later placed his membership at Northside Church of Christ in Lake City, where he was a faithful and dedicated member.
He leaves behind to mourn: his loving ex-wife, Carolyn Johnson; dear friend, Virginia Madison; his loving children, Natalie Johnson, Cedric Johnson and Justin Johnson; three sisters, Gloria (Jimmy) Lomax of Port St. Lucie, FL, Earnestine Johnson of Atlanta, GA, and Willene (Jesse) Sasser of Port St. Lucie, FL; brothers-in-law, Clyde Jackson, Dan Jackson and Bill Jackson; many nieces and nephews and other relatives. He lived a life filled with love and compassion towards all God’s people. “Rest in peace Johnny, your reward awaits you in Heaven.”
A Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Johnson will be held Saturday, April 3, 2021, 1 p.m. at the Northside Church of Christ, Lake City, FL, with Dr. Philip Mobley, minister, officiating.
John V. Hannam (1944 – 2021)
KINDERHOOK—John V. Hannam, 76, of Kinderhook passed away Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at his home.
Funeral services and a complete obituary will follow in the future. Arrangements are under the direction of the Raymond E. Bond Funeral Home, Valatie.
Allen McWhirt, Jr. (1955 – 2021)
GREAT BARRINGTON, MA—Allen “Butch” McWhirt, Jr., 66, of Hillsdale passed away March 31, 2021 at Fairview Hospital.
He was born March 28, 1955 in Great Barrington to the late Allen L. McWhirt, Sr., and June H. (Schmeichel) McWhirt. He attended Roe Jan and Ockawamick schools, before joining the Army, December 29, 1972.
He was honorably discharged from the service March 2, 1973 after an injury. After his Army career, he started McWhirt Trucking and continued to grow the business until the time of his death.
Mr. McWhirt was a part of many community organizations, including the Hillsdale Fire Department, Copake Community Rescue Squad, Philmont Rod and Gun Club, and was on the Board of Directors at Lebanon Valley Speedway.
In 1996, he fell in love with Donna, took 22 years to get married, but they were the best 25 years of his life. His hobbies included stock car racing—sportsman class, going to sportsman NRA dinners, enjoying coffee with his men’s group at local businesses, helping friends and family, and of course taking care of his beloved Peterbilt.
He is survived by: his Peterbilt; his beloved wife, Donna; his loving children, Sabrina and Steven (Carissa); his grandson, Lucas; siblings; Lucy Wood and Patti (Dave) Proper. He was also blessed to have many extended family, friends and neighbors.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved dogs, Tucker and Harley.
Family and friends are invited to call Monday, April 5, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Peck & Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22, Copake. The family requests no formal dress.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, April 6 from the funeral home at 11 a.m. with Deacon Warren Dorsch officiating. Truckers are welcome to join the procession which will form prior to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will military honors will follow in the North Hillsdale Cemetery. Due to Covid-19/NYS Guidelines—masks, social distancing and capacity limitations will be followed during all services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Rescue Squad, or the American Diabetes Association.
