CHATHAM—Columbia County 911 dispatched the Chatham Task Force and Chatham Rescue Squad for a reported fire in the basement of 3 Prospect Street in the village, January 25 at 3:54 p.m.
Once on the scene, fire command reported a working fire.
Firefighters from Chatham, Ghent, Valatie, Niverville, East Chatham, Austerlitz, Spencertown, Tri-Village, Greenport, Kinderhook and Hudson responded to the scene. Mellenville stood by in Chatham’s quarters for Chatham and Ghent. Nassau stood by in Niverville’s quarters.
CCEMS Valatie Rescue also responded.
Columbia County Fire Coordinators Office, Columbia County Cause & Origin Team, State Police, NYSEG, the Chatham Village DPW and the building inspector all responded to the scene. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Volunteers from the Hudson Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross provided emergency aid to one person after the January 25 fire.
The Red Cross provided financial assistance which can be used for necessities such as shelter, food, and clothing to one adult. Volunteers also offered emotional support. In the coming days, Red Cross staff and volunteers will remain available to help those affected by the fire as they navigate the road to recovery.
Firefighters were back in service at 10:40 p.m.
