Joyous dance helps desperate struggle for freedom

The Hudson Valley Academy of Performing Arts (HVAPA) in Taghkanic presented a dance on Saturday, April 9, to raise money to benefit Ukrainian refugees. The afternoon featured musicians Marilyn Miller, Terry Sullivan, Zach Nayer and Eva Louise Goodman, as well as solo dancer Fiona Scruggs, a dance choreographed by Taconic Hills High School senior Lola Hughes and performances by the Hudson Valley Academy of Performing Arts ensemble of Ukrainian folk dances. There were two shows and the audience gallery was filled for both. Dancers of the HVAPA performed interpretations of Ukrainian dances researched and choreographed by academy Director Debra J. Hughes. Ms. Hughes told The Columbia Paper that the latest count for how much was raised at the event is $1,700. Photo by David Lee
