County names affordable housing task force

HUDSON—At its November 9 meeting the County Board of Supervisors moved its agenda to address the county-wide need for more affordable housing forward with two acts. First, it appointed an Affordable Housing Task Force. The role of the Task Force will be to coordinate with the Columbia County Economic Development Corporation (CEDC), which was awarded a three-year contract in September to develop and implement a county-wide comprehensive plan for affordable and workforce housing.

The Task Force will be co-chaired by Supervisors Brenda Adams (D-Canaan) and Ron Knott (R- Stockport). Its other members are: Dan Barufaldi, Ghent Planning Board member; Robert Gibson ; County Social Services Commissioner; Bill Hughes, community leader; Meredith Kane, Roe Jan Housing Task Force member; Kirk Kneller, Kneller Insurance; Brandon Mullins, building code inspector-Livingston/Germantown; Rob Perry, City of Hudson Public Works; Tim Stalker, County Planning Board member; Kelly Sweet, Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation; Dennis Wedlick, Barlis/Wedlick Architects LLC.

The supervisors also appointed 10 individuals to provide a wide range of expertise. The members of that group, the Advisory Resource Committee are: William Gerlach, Columbia County Chamber of Commerce; William Fischer; Columbia County Fair Housing officer; Al Bellenchia, Columbia County Habitat for Humanity; Lisa Gallina, Columbia Greene Cornell Coop Extension; Claire Cousin, Hudson/Catskill Housing Coalition; Christopher Nardone, Columbia-Greene Workforce NY; Michelle Tullo, City of Hudson-Housing Justice coordinator; board representative Columbia Greene Association of Realtors; Adam Bosch, Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress; Michael Borges, NYS Rural Housing Coalition.

The CEDC is also in the process of interviewing candidates for a housing coordinator position.
