Suspect charged in Hudson shooting death of Philmont teen

HUDSON—A Philmont teenager was shot to death in the city and a 27-year-old man has been charged with his murder.

Hudson Police report that June 17 at 8:18 p.m. Columbia County 911 received a call from a witness who said there was a man with a gun in the vicinity of 20 Fairview Avenue and that a person had been shot.

A 19-year-old man, later identified as Inderly InStinfil of Philmont, suffered a single gunshot wound to his neck. He was able to get into a taxi near the Stewart’s Shop at the corner of Fairview Avenue and Green Street and left the scene. Read more…

Greenport man charged with rape and sex abuse

KINDERHOOK—A State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation investigator attached to the Columbia Greene Child Advocacy Center in cooperation with the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, arrested Bryan A. Graham, 20, of Greenport for second degree rape, a class D felony, second degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child, both class A misdemeanors, January 22.

The investigation revealed that Mr. Graham had started an online relationship with a 13-year-old victim in late 2016. This later led to an alleged sexual encounter between the victim and Mr. Graham early last year. Read more…

Sheriff charges Stuyvesant man with Stockport arson

STOCKPORT—The Sheriff’s Office charged a Stuyvesant man with third degree arson, a class C felony, in connection with an October 2017 house fire in Stockport.

The arrest was made after a two-and-a-half-month-long investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Branch, according to a press release from Sheriff David P. Bartlett.

The investigation began October 1, 2017 after the fire was reported to the Sheriff’s Office by Columbia County 911. Information gathered during the course of the investigation led to the arrest of William P. Travis, III, 31, of Woods Lane in the Stuyvesant. It was determined that Mr. Travis allegedly went to the residence at 290 County Route 25 in Stockport and started a fire that completely destroyed the structure. The Stockport Fire Department responded along with other local fire companies. Read more…

Driver dies after vehicle strikes cars in parking lot

CLAVERACK—Columbia County 911 dispatched sheriff’s patrols to an accident involving multiple vehicles in the parking lot of Coyote Flaco on State Route 9H/23, just north of Van Wyck Lane, December 5 at 6:49 p.m.

Deputies found that a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban operated by Ronald E. Moore, 73, of Stuyvesant was traveling north on State Route 9H/23 when for unknown reasons it went off the east side of the roadway about 250 feet south of the Coyote Flaco parking lot. The suburban continued on,  traveling in a northerly direction and into the parking lot where it struck an occupied 2015 Jeep operated by Steven A. Hart, 54, of Hudson. The impact pushed the Jeep into two unoccupied vehicles, a 2015 Toyota Highlander and a 2011 Toyota Sienna, and the 2011 Toyota then struck an unoccupied 2010 Kia station wagon, according to a press release from Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett.

The Greenport Rescue Squad took Mr. Moore, who was the sole occupant in the suburban, to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Read more…

Two-car crash on Route 9 claims one life, others injured

KINDERHOOK—State Police investigated a fatal motor vehicle collision at 3093 State Route 9 near Golden Harvest Farms, November 16 at 10:32 a.m.

The initial investigation revealed that Preston H. Schrader, 86, of Claverack made a left-hand turn onto State Route 9 from a parking lot exit and struck a northbound vehicle.

Valatie Rescue Squad took Mr. Schrader and another person to Albany Medical Center. Mr. Schrader was later pronounced dead there, according to State Police. CCEMS Greenport Rescue took one patient to Albany Memorial Hospital and one patient refused transport by the Chatham Rescue, according to County 911. Firefighters were back in service at 12:31 p.m. Read more…
