Man dies in inaccessible site on Mass border

MT. WASHINGTON, MA—A Ghent man was killed when he slipped off a rock near Bash Bish Falls Friday night, July 28,

His body was located two days later, but cannot be recovered, according to authorities.

Aiden Campion-Pratt, 21, of Ghent was swimming with another person at a place north of the main falls. Other waterfalls cascade through the area, which was described as a gorge with 100-foot sheer rock drop-offs on either side and pools of water along the way. Read more…

Police have not determined driver in fatal crash

BLUE STORES—A Hudson woman was killed in a three-car collision at the intersection of State Route 9 and county routes 31 and 8, July 19 at 6:50 a.m.

Columbia County 911 dispatched State Police from the Livingston barracks to the scene. Their preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling east on County Route 31 when it failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of State Route 9.

The Cavalier, occupied by Daniel Rowe, 64, and Tammy L. Parker, 40, both of Hudson, subsequently collided with a 2017 Hyundai which was headed north on State Route 9. The Cavalier overturned and struck a vehicle parked in the Xtra Mart convenience store/gas station parking lot at 2224 U.S. 9, Livingston. Read more…

Surveillance cam images capture elevator assault

HUDSON—Hudson Police are currently investigating an assault and possible shooting that occurred in the area of Bliss Towers within the City last week.

Thursday, July 13 at about 9 p.m. officers responded to the area of North Second and State streets for a report of shots fired. Officers arrived and learned that an assault occurred in one of the elevators, where it appears three men punched and kicked the victim, an unknown heavy-set black man, who is about 30 years old. Blood was observed in the elevator and hallway. Following the assault there were numerous shots fired outside the apartment complex. HPD officers found and retrieved evidence of shell casings. Good Samaritans rescue young women in submerged car

CLAVERACK—Passersby rescued two young women from their overturned car that was submerged in a swampy pond along State Route 23 in Martindale, June 15.

Craryville and Hillsdale firefighters, the Community Rescue Squad, State Police and Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of the accident at 1202 Route 23 at 9:39 a.m.

According to State Police, Ciera Vanackooy, 19, of Elizaville was driving southeast when due to a distraction inside the car, her vehicle exited the road and rolled into a pond. Ms. Vanackooy and her 16-year-old passenger were trapped inside. Read more…

Stolen bank card probe leads to arrest of Hudson man

HUDSON—Treyvon M. Whittaker, 20, of Hudson was charged with three counts of fourth degree criminal possession of stolen property, a class E felony and three counts of petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor, by Hudson Police, March 29.

Police received a walk-in complaint from a woman who said somebody had stolen her bank debit card. March 17.

Police conducted a felony criminal investigation and found that the stolen debit card was used several different times within the city to purchase items without the victim’s consent. The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit assisted in this case because the card was also used outside the city. Read more…
