Robert G. Ponkos, 57
Robert G. Ponkos, 57, of County Route 7 in Ancram, N.Y. passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 5, 2009 at his residence.
He was born June 25, 1951 in Hudson, N.Y. a son of Rudolph and Florence (Ivankoe) Ponkos, who survive in Hudson.
He was a graduate of Hudson High School and later attended Dutchess County Community College.
Mr. Ponkos was a talented and respected graphic artist. He operated the former Pumpkin Center Design Co. and was current owner of the Warren St. Media Group (WarrenStreet.com). He was involved in the print industry in many different capacities for his entire adult life.
A born hobbyist, he was a collector of many items including antique guns and knives. Mr. Ponkos enjoyed spending time with his family; skiing, camping, kayaking, hiking, bicycling and riding dirt bikes among other numerous pursuits.
On June 27, 1975 in Belleville, N.J. he married the former Laura Jane Baker, who survives him at home in Ancram.
Besides leaving his loving parents and devoted wife, Laura, Mr. Ponkos is survived by Robert Andrew Ponkos and Sarah Lauren Ponkos, both at home in Ancram, of whom he was the proud father. Additionally he leaves his favorite sister and brother in law, Barbara and John Merola of Hudson, along with several extended family members including aunts, uncles and cousins.
His brother, David Bruce Ponkos, died in 1998.
Friends are invited and may call Wednesday April 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, 8063 Route 22 in Copake.
A Celebration of the Life of Robert G. Ponkos to which all are invited, will held Thursday April 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the family residence, 1195 County Route 7, Ancram. The Rev. Mark Frickey of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ancram will officiate.
Private burial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be offered to the Copake Veterinary Hospital, Copake NY 12516 in memory of Robert Ponkos.

Helen Cole Netter, 96
Helen Cole Netter, 96 of Pine Plains, N.Y. died Thursday April 2, 2009 at Barnwell Nursing Home in Valatie, N.Y.
Born April 4, 1912 in Pine Plains, she was the daughter of the late Harrie Cole and Mary Wilber Cole.
She was a graduate of the Pine Plains High School, Skidmore College with a BA in English at the State University of New York at Albany with an MS in Library Science. She taught English at the Pine Plains Central School and later was the librarian at the Pine Plains Free Library. She also worked for the five- county Mid-Hudson Library System as the adult services consultant.
Mrs. Netter was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church of the Regeneration in Pine Plains, where she was organist and served on the altar guild. She was a former member of the Pine Plains Council of Churches and was a member of the Little Nine Partners Historical Society, the New York Altar Guild and the Chancellor Livingston Chapter of the DAR.
On July 2, 1942 she married E. Matthew Netter who diedr in 1990. She is survived by a daughter, Mary (John) Phillips of Kinderhook, N.Y., and a grandson, Matthew Phillips.
The family would like to thank the staff of the 4th floor at Barnwell Nursing Home for the compassionate and loving care they gave to Mrs. Netter during her stay there.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday May 16, 2009 at 11 a.m. from the Church of the Regeneration in Pine Plains.
Burialt will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Helen K. Murray
Helen K. Murray, 77, of Valatie died April 2. She was born in N.Y.C. on November 16, 1931.
She is survived by her brother, Carl C. (Felecia), her nieces Alicia, Kisha, Tanisha and Brittany and a great niece, Sky.
She loved church, singing and going out to eat. Helen will be missed by her many friends.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., when a service will be held at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl funeral home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.

Robert G. Wassenhove, 85
Robert G. Wassenhove, 85, of County Route 7 in West Copake, N.Y. died on Saturday March 28, 2009 at his residence. He was born on July 10, 1923 in Oskalo, Iowa the son of Victor and Carrie (Hingle) Wassenhove.
Mr. Wassenhove was an honors graduate of Hempstead High School and later was employed in production for Grumman and Republic Aircraft, both located in Farmingdale, N.Y. Upon moving to West Copake in 1947 he was a self-employed carpenter and contractor.
Mr. Wassenhove is survived by his brother and sister in law, Albert and Joan Wassenhove of Ghent, N.Y., along with three nieces and their families.
His funeral service will be held Friday April 3, 2009 at 11 a.m. from the Copake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jae Joon Lee, pastor, officiating.
Friends are invited and may call Thursday April 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Peck and Peck Funeral Home, Route 22, Copake, N.Y.
Burial will be in the Copake Cemetery.

Mary F. Karwowski
Mary F. Karwowski of Chatham, formerly of East Meadow (Nassau County) died March 27, 2009. Her beloved husband, Kazimierz (Casey), died previously.
She was a devoted and loving mother to John of Chatham; and Paul and Linda, of East Meadow and the loving grandmother of Michelle. She was also a cherished aunt to Lee Haliniewski and Lynn Baker of Union, N.J.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mrs. Karwowski was a homemaker for most her life, and upon retirement moved to Chatham with her husband.
The family will receive friends, Monday, March 30, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the French, Gifford, Preiter and Blasl Funeral Home, 25 Railroad Avenue, Chatham.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday by the Reverend Gary Gelfenbien at 10 a.m. in Saint James Church. Burial will follow at the Red Rock Cemetery.

William Lent, 70
William Lent, 70, of Chatham died March 23 at Columbia Memorial Hospital. He was born October 24, 1938 in Peekskill and was the son of William and Mary Walsh Lent.
Mr. Lent was educated and grew up in Peekskill and would marry Nancy Stoll there in 1962. After their marriage they moved to Mahopac where they would raise their family.
He worked as a truck driver for Elmsford Interstate and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamster Local 456 in Elmsford.
Mr. Lent enjoyed antique cars and Atlantic City with all its slots. He moved to Chatham after he retired
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; his sons, William Jr. of Brooklyn and Scott E. (Karen) of Chatham; his grandson, Christopher S. of Somers; his sister, Barbara Marallo of Wildwood,,NJ. and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lent’s brothers; Francis and Jack, died previously.
A memorial service will be celebrated at a later date.Memorials may be made to the Community Hospice of Columbia Greene in Mr. Lent’s memory.
