NY American Lung Ass’n offers online flu clinic locator

ALBANY—The American Lung Association in New York has established an online Flu Clinic Locator to allow New Yorkers to search by zip code for nearby public influenza vaccination clinics where they can get a seasonal flu shot.
The online directory is available at www.flucliniclocator.org [1]. The site can also be accessed through the association’s website by visiting www.alany.org [2] and clicking on the Find a Flu Clinic icon.

Youth celebrate local food and agriculture

ALBANY—Farm to You Fest 2009! takes place in schools and communities throughout the state October 5 to 11.
Officially known as New York Harvest for New York Kids Week, this annual event is a celebration of local food and agriculture, state Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker announced in a press release.

Ancram Town Board dithers over plan for its plan

ANCRAM–Conflicting advice from two experts seems to have the Town Board wondering how to proceed now that the final version of the town’s new Comprehensive Plan is complete.

In July, the new plan was handed over to the board by the committee that worked for 26 months to develop it. At the September 17 Town Board meeting, some board members said before they will take the next step, they need more time to review the new plan–even though they attended Comprehensive Plan meetings and received updates all along the way.

Several hurt in chain-reaction crash

GHENT—Two people were airlifted to Albany Medical Center following a four-vehicle crash on Route 66, Saturday, October 3 at 3:48 p.m.
Three vehicles were stopped in the southbound lane of traffic. The first vehicle in line was a 1969 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Herbert Carr, 55, of Columbiaville, who was waiting for northbound traffic to clear so he could make a left turn into the Brook Cove Marina, Columbia County Sheriff David W. Harrison, Jr. reported in a press release.
A fourth vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet flatbed tow truck, operated by Adam Moon, 19, of Ghent, who was also southbound, failed to stop for the stopped vehicles.

Deadlines near for absentee voting, enrollment and poll workers

HUDSON–The county Board of Elections has issued a reminder that deadlines are nearing for voter registration and for applying for absentee ballots for the November 3 general election.

County residents who are not registered to vote have until this Friday, October 9, to postmark a registration form or to apply in person at the Board of Elections office, downstairs at the county office building, 401 State Street. Individuals honorably discharged from the military since that date and individuals who have become naturalized citizens since that date may register in person until Friday, October 23.
