HILLSDALE–Town voters have approved a ballot measure authorizing the town to purchase the Hillsdale library building on Route 23 in the hamlet. The library vote was the only item on the ballot in a special election last week.
The vote was 266 to 112.
HUDSON–The Hudson City Democratic Committee will hold a Meet the Candidates night this Thursday, September 10, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Savoia 214 Warren Street.
The primary election is set for the following Tuesday, September 15. There are three candidates seeking two Democratic Party ballot slots for Common Council seats in District 1 of the city’s First Ward, Geeta Cheddie, Carole Osterink and Sarah H. Sterling.
COPAKE—The Town’s Comprehensive Plan Committee has scheduled a series of meetings to focus on the needs, interests and perspective of various groups of stakeholders in the town. The committee has already conducted focus group meetings with local realtors and members of the town government.
On Tuesday, September 8, the committee will meet with representatives of associations organized for the preservation of historical and natural resources.

NYC woman wants to preserve local produce for urban market
NEW LEBANON–A Stephentown woman wants to start a canning company in town and put up the produce of local growers.
Kristen Greer Woolery, a weekend resident, appeared before the town Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday, September 1, with her attorney, Brian Baker, to discuss plans for the Shaker Mountain Canning Company, a food processing plant she hopes to create on property she has under contract on Route 20, the former Jackie van Deusen property.
ANCRAM–Councilman John MacArthur wanted more specific information about several bills before he signed off on them for payment during the August 20 Town Board meeting. In one case, a bill to euthanize an injured feral cat didn’t seem to sit well with him. But as it turned out, he was the one who called the animal control officer to deal with the animal in the first place.
After questioning his brother, Highway Superintendent James MacArthur, about bills for a machine part and a First Aid kit, Councilman MacArthur asked for the name of the person the town deals with for insurance coverage.
